Hi, my ignition key is refusing to be removed! its stuck in the number 1 position, this is the stage where the button is requiring a press, the button seems to be jammed. Ive not had chance to have a look at it yet, so im hoping for a few pointers,

Cheers for any help or advice, Steve.

PS, wiped the whole drivers side out last saturday on the m1 j23 roundabout, list of things to do just seems to grow

you got a tubby timer???

if thats faulty it wont release the key, i think lol

I know when mine is on, you cannot remove key tell its done.

only thing i can think of

HTH

Sorry to be off topic, but whereabouts in leicestershire are you mate?

on the autos you can unplug the key realese mech under drivers side panel above your feet, so if you have intellistart or a turbo timer it lets you take the key out while running ;)

in know this seems a stupid anwser if its an auto is it in park

LMAO you would be suprised how many calls I get with people doing just that

even in park sometimes the selector arm is not set perfect,so lever needs to be pushed forward slightly to extract key

Sorry! forgot the vital details!! its manual (was auto) with no tub timer, Its deffo the lock ide say, but i could be wrong as the 300's are very specialised IMO (i have a small garage in Sileby & work on 'the run of the mill cars' for a living) I'm located in woodhouse eaves near Loughborough.

Cheers steve

mine comes out in any gear, i thought the key lock button was purely mechanical, a kind of anti high-jak thing so if u were driving with the roof off then no one could nick ur keys easily.

give it a skoosh of WD40 mine sometimes feels a little dry and it makes all the difference.

I thought that's what the Vaseline was for. :x:

no, vaseline is for anal and leaking T-tops

wd40 for cars ;)

wouldnt have thought it would be a good idea to try it the other way round either.

Cheers all, ive already tried some oil in and around the ignition, but to no avail. I'm having a look an saturday. Trouble is i keep having to use it, locking it on the remote, i cant help thinking it being parked with the key in ignition, may attract the wrong attention! Dont suppose the insurance would pay out to boot.

oh yeah!    now with big dogs in! (no jokes about the missus please!)

Could be that the solinoid has failed. Mine (Auto) did this, I took the solinoid off, key came out, not worries! :) I think you only need a couple of allen keys for this as well.

Give one of the mechanics a call (Jeff/Ryan etc...) they should be able to talk you through it.

I have th eopposite problem, the key will come out at any time even when the engine is running - I have even had them come out when getting a particularly nasty slide back into line. When I was getting the tyres fitted the kid at Protyre managed to remove the keys without turning the engine off, when I came back half an hour later it was still running on the ramps. The kid comes up to me and asks how to turn the engine off! So I said "exactly the same as any other car just turn the key to the off position" - get a tenner off the price of the tyres for the incompetance.
