Air Filters

In my frustration in waiting for Japanese Performance magazine I bought Max power and found a nice little section on Air Filters.

What I was curious to know is, considering the amount of restriction of the stock panel filters, is there much difference between any of the conical filter in relation to flow?

Oh yeah, and does anyone know what the dimensions of a K&N filter is?

What about between the cone filters.

What do you mean which one is best?

Blitz SUS Induction kit is the way to go mate. wink.gif

I hear that GPS do a cracking deal on these...hee hee hee biggrin.gif

Well, I know that people swear by Blitz and HKS and even K&N but if there isn't much difference between air flow and dust retension then what is the difference if the filter costs £10 or £400?

HKS gear is over rated IMHO mate! LOL biggrin.gif

Stick with Blitz. wink.gif

If you want top filtration and performance then the APEXi filter is the bollox but you try getting one! ROFL biggrin.gif

Ring J-Glo but warnin' ya...buy HKS and the Klan will be after yer sorry ass!!! LMAO biggrin.gif

P.S. anyone got a glass eye and a banjo and some red neck dungarees I could borrow? biggrin.gif

I want an A'Pexi one. If it will fit. Cos I want to be different. wink.gif

I asked RC developments for a price. They said they dont do them cos they are oiled based.

Hmmmmm, according to A'Pexi's site they are not oil based. Show how much they know. Yet they deal with K&N, who pride themselves on being oilbased

Stu me old mate,

I rang Dave at DP Motorsport who is an importer for APEXi, he can get you one and said that after that review of the main perf. filters he'd been swamped with calls for the APEXi! wink.gif

But they all claim massive BHP increases etc. It's called positive marketing technique to get your product sold.

APEXi filter is bollocks oil based so whoever told you that is talkin' out their fat arse! Which seems to be quite common these days...ROFL biggrin.gif

Here is what they said

Stuart

I'm sorry but we do not sell the Apexi Air filters as they are heavily oil

based and will corrupt your air flow meter. We would recommend either Blitz,

HKS or Pipercross as all of the above are either none oil based or lightly

oil based..

HKS is £155 + Vat

I think they look cool. I found another make where you can have it in a range of colour. I wanted one of them for asthetic value, even though asthetic aint the word I was looking for i put it in cos I couldnt be arsed thinking any more for the right word

SHIT Novelty value. Just thought of it but I couldnt be arsed going back and changing it so I decded to type an extra fifty four words instead.

LMFAO biggrin.gif

Stupid she bitch! wink.gif

WTF does she know anyway? You checked out the web page bud? Even states that the APEXi is a low-maint DRY filter. I stayed well away from the K&N and oil based filters after finding out that over time they can line the intake tract with a film that then upsets the MAF meter!

Z's are twitchy enough without adding more into the "what's wrong with my Z it's idling rough!" etc. equation! ROFL biggrin.gif

Stillen do a good one aswell for anyone who's interested, claims 20 bhp but then they all do!

Cos:

I've got a K&N cone filter on mine.

Not sure exactly how large it is, but it only just fits under the panel/bumper.

I'll try and get some dimensions off it for you.

Nice one mate!

I had the k&n filter on my car and now this is a really funny story cause i was told by a said company that we are all having a problem with right this very moment that it is crap and i need an hks air filter. Well low and behold i got the hks air filter and it has made not onw iota of difference as you probably already know.

The hks is nice but i really like the blitz filters.

I saw the trust filters the other day which are very well piced. You can contact Xoticar i think as they deal with them.

So we are saying that cone over standard is much better. However, cone for cone, not much difference! Yeah?

K&N filters dont fit the UK Spec Z.

The roll bar and oil cooler are in the way.

They know about this problem, yet they will still sell you the filter.

i use standard filters costing me £8 pounds each and will continue to do so until i need to get over the 400bhp figure as you wont need the air flow that a performance filter gives you until then.......has anybody looked at other makes of car to see if a filter will mate up to the z from it

You can't go wrong with the Blitz filter. As soon as I fitted mine, my clutch started slipping- must've been a decent power increase (or a co-incidence!)

I have no problem with the K&N filter on my car.....

I think you were supplied the Z31 filter, if i remember the post correctly?

Although, you might have trouble if you have an auto oil cooler.

I think the Z31 filter is cylindrical while the Z32 is conical (or whatever the name for a cone with the top chopped off is).

I had a different problem because my car didn't have the horizontal bar onto which the spashguard is mounted, so I had to get a separate bracket.

Cos: Here are the dimension to my atmospheric cleansing device wink.gif

k_n2.jpg

This is fitted on a UK TT Manual. But to reply to SRRAE, yes it is a very tight fit.

I would have taken a photo, but I forgot the camera. DOH!!

Hope this helps.

I had a K&N (well, it was a JWT but it's the same unit U believe) on my Jap import with gearbox oil cooler. As the oil cooler is an add on, you should be able to remount it if it's causing a problem.

Not sure which splash guard you are using but I had the SE one but it wouldn't fit because it mounted on top of the engine oil cooler on a UK car (I'd got it second hand). Being lazy, I wedged it in for a while and then just pulled it out - I never had any problem with this set up although you do run the risk of water in the Airflow Meter which would not be a cheap problem !

Dave

Thankyou everyone for your input.

Dunk, is the 180 the fitment size or just the size of the top of the filter?

These sizes are actual measurements of my filter in millimeters. I haven't got a clue of part numbers ECT. Incidentaly I have just sold another K&N to a chap from Purfleet, Jan Chase. I bought this in error, so I hope he is happy with it (if he's reading).
