The plot thickens....

OK, as some of you are aware, when I first got my 300 the previous owner had, well, not lookied after it from a service point of view, very well. For example all the connectors were full of Coppaslip grease (a fantastic CONDUCTING grease - great idea on a multi pin connector don't you reckon?) and there were a lot more "Hmm thats strange I wonder who did that...." moments along the way...

Anyway, after getting the front of the engine stripped ready for a cambelt change and to find out what parts I needed, after taking off the bottom metal coolant pipe (coming from the front of the engine), I thought to myself "Isn't that where the thermostat should be???". Guess what - the WANKERS who had previously worked on the car (before I got it) had *FORGOTTEN* (????) to replace the thermostat valve - WTF!!!!

I can't see any damage being done but this does explain a few funny temp related problems I've had....

Another MAJOR point is the fact that I have a reciept for a 60k service being done including Cambelt change along with auxiliary drive belts etc - the only problem is it can't have been MY car that the work was done on - the auxiliaries were shot to pieces which concerned me a little about the cambelt - after removing the relevant covers, that's looking rather screwed too frown.gif

The moral of the story - even though you have receipts NEVER trust the previous owner of the car unless you have good reason to do so - also NEVER take your car to a back street dealer like the guy who had mine b4 me did wink.gif

Thanks for tuning in.....

Andy you have hit the nail on the head with service history, it is only as good as any provable parts invoices, as WE have discussed at othertimes I always make photo graphic proof of large jobs that are hard to prove later without stripping etc,my guess on the thermostat is the £18 to £20 cost was thought to be too much?? the previous owner in all fairness may of been ripped off himself.Respect to you for tackling what can seem a daunting job andat least you will know it is done properly this time. It's funny you should post this Andy.. I was just looking at my old timing belt today (well, I had to move it after I tripped over it a dozen times.. smile.gif) and it looks brand new.. I've been trying to work out if maybe the car had a 60k maint done, but there's no Nissan sticker on the car (like the one I got in my 60k kit from Courtesy), odd.

I took my Z to Hiteq for a 60K service and after working on the car they said it had done way more than 60K miles. Obviously clocked but it's still running fine apart from turbos starting to smoke.

Just annoying I may have wasted money on cam belts etc that may have only done 20K or something. Then again they may never have been changed before...

Its hard to believe that owners will abuse a car so rewarding to drive, but this is often the case with supercar requirements bought for metro money.

It must be a real bitch coming across piss poor workmanship, but having seen the car and your work, that is going to be one hell of a car when on the road. Would really like to help, when I say help i mean make bres and pass the odd spanner, you know my limits, so give us a call or email, and i'll have a trip up when ever.
