Just got back from Ztech......

Ryan and gang have fitted auto turbos into my manual.

What a difference!

The boost now kicks in much earlier (about 2.3k revs) and it makes the car much more nippy around town and has a fair bit more acceleration. Sure, I've lost the 180mph top end (now about 155mph) but I can live with that :)

Thanks Ryan and the boys at Ztech - your customer service and great workmanship have done you credit once again :)

So do manuals have a higher top end than autos? confused... :(

Not really - the gearing will probably even it out although the theoretical top end of an auto is supposedly higher, someone will explain why.....

......The significance of Mac300zx's case is that the auto turbos are slightly smaller to spool up quicker, thus work effectively with the auto-box in order not to compromise its performace. Smaller turbos are therefore better for standing acceleration but cannot deliver as much power at the top end.

Hence auto turbos on a manwell will make it faster off the mark but in an unlimited manual car it won't reach the same top speed - more power gives higher top speed as it helps the car fight wind resistance better.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i really dont think that theres that much difference between the manual and auto turbos, certainly not 35mph difference anyway so i;m sure on a long enough road you will still be able to hit close to that mark :)

This is the benefit that all the auto-manual conversions get (assuming they have auto turbos to start with of course). Compare the torque curves between an auto and a manual - this is quite a difference.

yep precisly when i got my car from japan it already had the conversion done, auto cams aswell which have a slightly differant profile

So why not keep one turbo auto and the other one manual so you get bit on both sides :D

Good news :)

Would the power/speed loss be becuase your now running much lower boost as previous tubs were SE Stage 2's ?

Put simply, Dave, they weren't!

I believe the Manual top speed is 186mph at red line and auto is 201 at red line.

HOwever both will need mods to get powerful enough to go that fast, and a stock auto box will probably explode under the power.
