Do 91 Japaneese Zeds have ABS?

It could have, quickest way to check is to look at the servo, if it has TWO pipes coming out of it, then it HAS got ABS, if it has FOUR, then it DOES NOT have ABS!!

I was on the way home in the rain and hit the brakes and they locked up rather than doing the ABS stutter. No ABS lights came on to give any warning that there was an ABS problem.

LOL! easier way to check is if theres an ASB light when you turn the ignition on ;)

Take a look at the Service Manual....>>>>> START FROM HERE read it and follow the procedure, should at least tell you what the problem is.

Did you check to see how many brake pipes come out of the servo?

No I'm at work and the car is home relaxing. I have no idea where the servo is or what it looks like.

Check the fuses at the back of the engine bay on the drivers side to make sure nobody has removed the ABS fuse. Might sound silly, but when i blew my ignition fuse i used the abs one in its place for a while thus no ABS.

Is it a Turbo? Im sure the NA does not have ABS.

I have a 94 N/A and has two pipes on the servo and an abs light on the dash when the ignition is turned?

No, I believe it was standard on TT's and optional on NA's..but probably varied across years.

Hence the different brake server versions (abs and non abs)

Locking up in the wet is still easy with ABS, are you sure you weren't expecting too much from the ABS.

All twin turbos come with ABS - what a scary thought: no ABS on a car this heavy...... and I have the lightest model .......shudder...

I have ABS on my Merc and it never locks up. I did the ignition test and an ABS light came on and once I started it the ABS light went off. As a side bar can anyone explain HICAS as that light came on too.

HICAS is your four wheels steer. the light comes on as normal when ignition switched on if it comes on whilst driving usually means its low on fluid.

Hicas is the Rear wheel steering. Do a search for it, there is loads of info on it.
