MOT dilemma

Hi guys,

Just a quick question: I've just MOT'd my Zed (import) in preparation to sell, and it failed on just a headlight bulb, which I thought to be a bit of a result. Unfortunately the guy at the MOT station said I will need to replace the whole unit as the units are sealed up (bulbs not accessable??). Whats the easiest way to get this bulb replaced? surely im not looking at a £200 bill for a dead bulb? :headvswal

thanks in advance

The bloke is talking out of his ring piece. They are a mare to get off, but you don't need a whole light unit to replace a bulb!

Totally agree :D I sugest you find a new MOT station next year, as this guy is full of shit!

Yep and it all comes out his gob....... :mac1:

Best take it somewhere else fella as he sounds like a right :smw:

Just had a similar problem - MOT place said left headlight was out - I asked if they HAD an H3C. They said yeah, yeah, we got all bulbs - 2 mins later - "erm, kinda strange bulb, no got one".

I told them to wiggle the earth - they did and it came on.

I already knew the mod on the bulb was dodgy and knew it was getting done properly when back from mot.

Anyways - mot in place, set about dismantling old earth wire mod, which was ok but a wee bit amateur.

Both bulbs now standardised to H3 by securing earth wire (with crimp ring at headlight end and crimp spade male at the loom end).

Earthed to headlight using one of 2 screws either side of bulb - one of these screws holds the metal clip which holds the bulb in place. Not easy to access but can be done without removing headlight. Make sure you have a magnet pole to hang onto the screw as it comes off and back on.

HTH

ps - now running 100w bulbs.

sure you didnt take in a 1970 mini with sealed beam headlamps instead of your zed??? LOL :D

Cheers for the feedback guys, this is the second Zed ive had that went straight through an MOT (apart from a pesky bulb)

Guess i've just been lucky

thanks again
