speedfreak Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 ok my car has gone bananas it started coughing and spluttering at the top end and on hard acceleration the other day after it had been raining, has gradually got worse and worse until this morning. It wouldnt pick up the revs then when it did the car was shuddering and popping and banging. When i revved hard it actually popped a couple of flames!! stalled a couple of times and reluctantly got going again.. dont dare try to drive it at the mo.. I think my maf has gone bang... is this right dyou think or is it just possessed?? cheers Quote
Mark W Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Erm... don't want to worry you but it sounds a bit more serious to me matey- I've heard of similar symptoms which turned out to be the timing belt slipped or the tensioner broken. Deffo get it checked out properly before you drive it again :( Mark Quote
greg Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 if you get time liam im sure ryan could swap a maf over for you and see what it comes up with, failing that do a consult or do an ECU diag see what it comes up with,my moneys on MAF as you say mate, doubt it would be anything to do with cambelt IMO if they get wet they play up chronic Quote

If you can drive it under 2500 without the car jumping then its the maf. :headvswal had this happen on mine :headvswal Cheers matey Quote
bubbles Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Yep, mine cuts out under hard acceleration when it gets really wet since i fitted an apexi but its fine in the dry. Must see if i can make a shield of some sort Quote

greg Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Done :) LOL mark i like your avitar thread killer, hay it could well of been a cambelt issue at least its ruled out ;) i normally kill threads with my big gob PMSL so were all at fault liam looks like MAF then mate ;) before ruling out new maf mate place filter in airing cupboard overnight, leave battery off whilst doing so then refit on a dry day, might save you £200+ for a new one Quote
speedfreak Posted October 19, 2005 Author Posted October 19, 2005 thanks mark. Greg gotta be worth a try, shall i put the maf in to dry as well?? Quote
