Our ex-racing greyhound Jack started to limp a few weeks ago. Took him to the vet who reckoned he could have injured his leg. They took an X-Ray and the result showed that his leg was fine and so they thought it could be his shoulder. Went in for another X-Ray, only to find that his shoulder is fine too. Took some more tests and came to the sad conclusion that he has bone cancer and may only have 3 months to live :cry: . He's booked in for a biopsy next week to confirm it. We've only had him in the family for 2 years and it doesn't seem like 5 minutes. Always happens to the best of them, f***ing cancer. :cry:

Sorry to hear mate. One of my dogs died of the same thing. Not nice seeing them like that.

thanks for that guys. the vet offered an alternative - if Jack was to have his leg amputated he'd live another 3 months but we're not going to put him through that. Best to let him go when its his time really.

 

 

ps. the photo is how Jack always looks - an old fool! he's still fine at the moment (ie. a lazy shite)

gutted for ya dave my boxer had cancer years ago and i had to have him put to sleep

i still miss him .....you have to do whats best for jack ..its hard but you are definatley doing the kindest thing you probably ever could do for him . make his last few weeks the best he has ever had , only you will know when its the right time to say goodbye ,

My Ridgeback had the same. I was devistated when I found out. Jack will tell you when he wants to go, mine came to say good bye to everyone, even the cat ( who he used to chase!)

He sat by the car in the morning, he wanted to go to the vet for the last time. :cry:

My dad's dog developed cancer. Itw as very sad as he had 2 dogs, brothers, and after several rounds of chemo, ops etc it was decided to let him go. They spoiled him for his last day and finally did it. It was sad but the best for the dog. My dad had had the dog all it's life and it was put to sleep at 14...

 

It's very sad as I am an animal lover..

I refused to have anymore dogs for years because you get so attached to em that its like loosing a child when anything happen to them. Because we used to have Great Danes The Dane rescue sociaty started bringing use dogs that had been abused. Stange thing is that abused and negected dogs seem even more obediant and loyal, but they never lived long, a year or two. it really used to cut me up so I said no more in the end.

I love great danes and would love to have o ne but the missus says they are too big...I am almost tempted to swap her for a dane...lol

Sorry to hear your bad news.Ive got 2 ex racers and they make great family pets.

So sorry to hear this Dave. My advice would be to fuss over him and let him know how much he's loved with lots of lurverly dinners :) It's a very sad time but you know when it's right to let them go and not let them suffer anymore.

Jack (or rather Any Jack) is an Irish ex-racing greyhound rescued from being shot by the ****ing gyppos cos he was too old to race (ie. 5 years old which means he would have missed another 10 years of loving family life). i'll make sure he's fussed over even more (as if thats possible) while he's still with us. thanks and take care everyone. We lost a ex racer deerhound to some lung disease... :(

Still have westhighland white as my companion but hes 14 so i know whats coming :cry:

 

Strange as it may sound our little westie howled at the time that the deerhound was put down even though he wasnt there when it was done :confused: ....They certainly can sense something extra

 

You can only take heart in how happy you have made his life and the good times hes given you...these will be with you forever bud :)

Poor old thing. sad news mate. 2 years is enough for him to have become part of the family.
