Yesterday as I reversed out of my garage, I noticed the dreaded Hicas warning light 'ON'.

Luckily it went out after a couple of hundred yards. However it might be a warning of things to come, (might be a bit of moisture in the wiring? he hopes). I know Stillen do a bar to illiminate the Hicas as I understand that a Hicas repair can be expensive. Does anyone have any experience of Hicas failures, repairs, or the Stillen Hicas illiminator kit?

Cheers

Bill

i wouldnt worry about it m8 mine comes on every morning when i start up or leave it for more than six hours unless you start going sideways at every corner then it may be time to have it looked at have you checked the power steering fluid resovoir

Yeah Cold Fluid is probably the cause, it is ATF so contracts when Cold which is why you only get it for a while in the morning.

As for Eliminating the HICAS not a good idea. Is that Henri's post that Jez posted ? if not then read that too. HICAS is there for a reason, anyone that thinks they can drive better without it either a) really knows what they are doing or b) thinks they really know what they are doing. Nissan put a lot of research into the top end cars handeling the Skyline doesn't(or at least didn't) hold the Nuburgring lap record for nothing !

Thanks guys, the problem has not re-occured. The Yanks seem to illiminate the Hicas rather than spend $$$'s mending it when it goes wrong, ( mind you they don't know how to vote or count!)At Stillen they sell an illiminator bar just for such a purpose. I will not be buying one.

The hicas light did illuminate for another fault a couple of years ago: the sender unit at the gearbox failed. This caused the speedo, powersteering and Hicas to fail. It was a devil of a job to trace the fault as it was bloody intermittant (very interesting when taking a bend with NO powersteering and it suddenly decides to work!!!!!!).
