hi can someone help me with this problem, went and started my car this morning and was sitting in it because i always wait for it to warm up before i drive off .When i looked out the passenger side window there was white smoke going past with the wind , i got out of my car and looked at the exhausts and there was white smoke coming out of the left hand side exhaust alwell as a bit of steam and the smoke smelt funny the smoke was not blue so much and didnt really smell like burning oil. As i reved it a bit it blew the smoke a bit thicker. But the amount of smoke was decreasing as the car was warming up, so i took the car out for a spin to observe if the car smoked more under load but it didnt not even when i booted it i went about 5 miles(hard driving) and returned home i let the car idle for about 5 min and there was no smoke and then began to rev it nothing then right up to the red line and nothing then let it idle for another 5 min and nothing at first i thought it could be a turbo but i thought if it was it would smoke all the time and would be more blue in colour and have a distinctive smell of burning oil .

 

does anyone have any ideas on this dilema im flumuxed im new to this car and have not had much experience dealing with problems any ides would be much appreciated

jim this is everyones worry,explained= white smoke is condensation which will appear,whilst car is warming up so dont panic,it will clear when fully warmed up,most cars especially big engined cars/ produce large amounts of condensation this is normal ;)

mate i think its something more sinister i aint no expert maybe im just being paranoid, but this smoke stunk it smelt off -key it might have been grey and i would have thought if it was condensation it would be coming from both exhausts one of the exhausts was popping at bit of steam the other exhaust had 100 times more smoke coming out of it do you think it could possibly be fueling wrong ???

if your that worried about it get a consult on it check for 02 sensors etc,could be cats have collapsed causing a bad smell or a lazy 02 sensor but i doubt its nothing! but again get it checked if your worried ;)

could be PCV valves do a search on that also.

mate ive got the tightest,sweet zed motor ive ever owned with 56,000 miles on her and ive had 3 of the fvckers.when i sometimes start mine and let it sit to idle i get the whitish smoke but iff i start the car and drive off straight away i get nothing :confused: ive come to the conclusion in my case i think i get a bit of oil leaking past the turbo oil seals when it stands.when she gets on the road and no matter how hard i drive it i get no smoke at all so i dont think you have to worry iff you have the same smoke on cold idle as i do,its just embarrasing if people see your pride and joy smoking like the bismark and they think you have a goosed zed :rofl: :rofl:

if youre at all worried, you can always pop round & i'll take a quick butchers at it for you - i work at Vikings (mercedes) in Sturry :)

If its cold, you will naturaly produce more condense/smoke. I got my Zed in the summer and nothing, then a little frost came and in the morning i looked like somthing out of James Bond. Don't worry bud. The time to worry is when its black!!!!! Then your fooked LOL

cheers for that mate your probably right well i hope so anyway takin it to z-tech tuesday so they will pick up on it if theres a problem .

mine does the very same thing, and it's got 120k on it. this thread has been very helpful to me. Taken a lot of worry away.

its true its just unburnt oil which has passed your oil seals on the turbo and when you start it up it burns off ,if you have a turbo problem floor the car when driving and see if you get smoke then,if you dont you have nothing to worry about bud
