hi guys wondered if you could help with a vibration comming from my 300zx na.It comes in at around 60 and its a vibration that seems to come thru the seat ,theres no shake on the wheel,and it doesnt fell like rear wheels need balancing,thought it could be the prop bearing as the car has done 52000 so had that replaced by samurai in essex,but its still there, any ideas would be much appriciated.cheers Yani.

Centre prop bearing needs checking, i'd go back and make sure when they fitted it they lined it up correctly, dont bother with non specialists, stick to the garages on here ;)

totally agree. been down the road of the non specialists and it just aint worth it (is for them though cos they all scam you!!)

I agree with what Chris and Gaz has said. Got to be the prop bearing. Take it back. There might even be a few prop bolts loose. You never know?

First things first..... What EXACTLY have you had replaced???

 

The propshaft CARRIER bearing or a propshaft bearing??

Im assuming for the purposes of my answer that it is the propshaft Carrier bearing that you have had replaced.

There are also Three cross-shaft type bearings in the prop itself in addition to the carrier bearing. All of these CAN and WILL wear especially the front one. And wear in these will give vibration.

Replacement of these is EXTREMELY difficult as they are staked in not circlipped in.

Replacement props are available in a variety of options . Starting from stock steel will ALL new joints of the fully replaceable circlip type. See MJP Eastern Auto in the traders section for details of these.

TOTALLY DISAGREE. My local independant garage has done this propshaft job on my NA, competently and cost effectively. They are less than 100yds from where I work, so convenient too.

They have done several other jobs on my NA too....power steering pump change, underdrive pulley fit, replace broken wheel stud etc. They also work on my Pug Diesel and my daughters Metro in the same efficient, friendly cost effective way.

I fully support the subscribed traders on here. I am currently discussing an engine build with one of them and have spent many hundreds of pounds already with others, but it is not always neccessary or indeed possible to use them for all routine repair and servicing work.

All the above of course.. IMHO. :D

There are some good and some bad.

All down to who you trust and good experience.

None of us knew alot about Zed's before we had one (or maybe some did) but we are happy to take each others help/experience.....

Give the independant garage a break but avoid the crap ones....

 

Back on topic....anyone want my prop..?? :rofl:

I've got the same problem (vibration through seat) and i believe it's the balancing cause my bearing was replaced at the zcentre but the vibe is still there. I've spoke to a specialist prop refurbers in Manchester and they can sort it for £100 or less. Seems like a lot and it's probably a very easy job for them (trade secret) but i'll pay anything to make it go away.:(

 

Hopefully Splatts auto prop will fit my manual (remember Splatt, i've got dibbs) anyone know if it will fit?

I too had this problem. I looked at all the standard fixes, it was none of them. my MOT garage picked up the rear steering arms foe excessive play. These were changed (£64 ish each + labour) and it's now as smooth as greased weasel shit.

Cheers guys for all the advice,i spoke to samurai performance today,and iam taking it back to them on tuesday,they are a specialist co,it is run by 2 guys who both run 300zx's and started the company solely to service and work on 300's,i saw an article about them in Banzai and they seemed great,and i must say when i went there they seemed great,when i spoke to them today they said that maybe the old doughtnut bearing had caused some damage to the prop?.also does anyone know if you can get a jap tv that was in the car when i bought it to work i gather its the wrong frequency?

Also check the rear gearbox mount. This collpases overtime and bring the prop out of alighnment.

 

When refitting ensure that they marked both prop ends, and put it back the way it was.
