I got caught by a roadside mobile camera 2 weeks ago doing 60mph in a 30 zone. I had the letter today to reply and tell them who was driving :(

The letter says i could get 3-6points and up to £1000 fine or a ban at the courts discretion.

Has anyone on here been caught doing the same kinda speed difference and what kinda fine and points did ya get?????

Any help would be appreciated. I want to go back and do my paramedic training but cant have more than 3 points :headvswal

Its one of those things im afraid, we've all done it, we'll all do it again and no doubt sooner or later we'll all get caught!!

60 in a 30 is a bit too naughty thou, especially if you know the village.

Even if your'e in a Wheelchair    :nelson: :D

I appreciate that it was awful that I was doing double the speed limit but it certainly wasnt intentional and when I looked at my speedo after seeing the van was the first time I actually realised how fast I was still going. And Im sure every single one of you out there with a zed has exceeded the speed limit at some point, maybe not as bad as I have done, but exceeded it all the same!!

I got caught at 106mph in a 70. 3 week ban and £150 fine.

i know i'm new to this forum and don't wanna upset ppl i don't know...but...I know a guy that was doing double the limit.... 8 weeks jail time, 18 month ban £1000 fine and sent on an extended retest  .. not nice. it's wrong to speed, yes but twice the limit!!!` :( well i've read all the posts, anna seems that you are gonna have to take this one on the chin, dont think the court are gonna be in a good mood with you i'm afraid to say, as nick said twice the limit in a residential area :nono:

Think about selling the zed and buying a push bike.. think your going to be needing it!

sorry :x:

:x: My mate got caught doing 62 in a 30, already got 3 points. He pleaded guilty by post with an apologetic letter telling how he knows he did wrong and had no excusefor it. Told them if he lost his licence he'd lose his job :nelson: , He got 6 points and £120 fine. Be honest hold your hand up to it and you'll be better off. After that just dont get cought again.

I think the sneaky bstrds are taking the piss with all these new fangled ideas how to squeeze more dosh out of the motorist. BUT! to be honest 60 in a 30 is a bit OTT. so basically "if you cant pay the fine. dont commit the crime".

All the advice I can give you is tell them how sorry you are and how important your licence is and promise you wont do it again. They might be leanient with you girl?

I was just wondering guys and girls. How long do you lose your licence for if you accumilate 12 points? if you don't have 12 points but go to court due to an offence such as this and they take your licence away and fine you, say 3mth or 6mth or whatever, do you then get your licence back clean? I'm sure this happened to my brother a while back but was wondering all the same. Its all on my mind at the moment as I'm worried about picking up another 3pts from the camera the other day (purposely keeping to 40mph and it turned out to be 30mph, and it turns out many people have done the same thing in this area who I work with).

Bad luck Anna :(

We all have opinons as to what is right or wrong here but if we are being honest we all speed at times, but the law is the law and you must face the consequences if you break it.

Personally I obey 30, 40 and 50 limits but treat "national" speed limit as what ever I determine as safe, even though that means breaking the law. For instance I will drive at 95-100 on an empty m-way in clear dry conditions because it is safe to do so, if I get caught I will accept the punishment as it's my choice to drive at that speed. I will slow right down in bad weather though, even if everone else still speeds past at 70 "because that is the speed limit....." ;)

This is where "safety cameras" are ineffective as driving a well maintained 300ZX at 100mph on a dry empty m-way is much safer than driving a Corsa in the same circumstances as the ZX is built for the speed. I would also argue it is safer than driving that same Corsa at 45 round town, but there are some tree hugging types that think 100mph is totally unacceptable and I should have my b0ll0x removed for even thinking about doing it.

I think some rural 30mph speed limits have been extended far beyond the previous boundaries of villages in recent years and this does indeed cause frustration. It is too easy therefore to forget you are still in a 30 zone as there are no street lights etc, but you should still be aware of the limit.

I agree with the other's comments - plead guilty, take it on the chin but appear apologetic and accept you have learnt your lesson.

Good luck

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

while i understand this type of attitude, its nothing short of hypocrosy IMO.

at what point does knowingly going any amount over the speed limit become acceptable?!

face it - weve all got fookin quick cars & knowingly break the law!! :x:

well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
