my drivers belt doesn't retract full when released so dangles a bit when I open the door. Can it be tightened up or would a replacement be the best answer?

Same issues on both of mine, seems to just affect the passenger side, so doesn't bother me!! :p

Matt - I might be able to help - leave it with me.

There was a thread not so long back about this problem. Somone surgested that there is an electrical connection on the reel itself and if you disconnect it then it seemed to recoil back quicker. Not done it myself so not sure if its true. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!! LOL

Where the heck is there a electrical connection?? I had mine off as it does the same thing... its just a normal (old fashion) seat belt.

sorry but true.

Only thing is to replace it I think.

but thats just my 2 cents.

As i said it was from another thread. This is what was wrote:

I had em replaced....IIRC there is a built-in (design) feature which allowed a certain amount of slack so the belt didnt get uncomfortable by snagging on your clothes etc... its electronically controlled...pop off the door card and there is a small connector which runs from the seat-belt unit...it controls the slackness if you unclip it i think the belt then operates as a normal retracting belt....shoot me down if i'm wrong someone...

I havent looked myself so 'sorry but true.'

Matt - I've a front belt (left over from a set of 4) from a 93UK TT - the parts on it might help - I'll put it in the post to you. If it's no help, chuck it.

good luck

Jack

There is an electrical connection on the door mounted Jap imports (don't know about the UK ones) that releases the seat belt once the belt clip is released from the clasp by the seat.

I find that if I've over pulled it (ie: leaning forward looking round tight junctions) I just press the seatbelt release button and quickly push the clip back in, it tightens the belt back up.

I've not tried dissconnecting the wire yet, but might give it a try.

Cheers Jack! :)
