at last final decision... im gonna rebuild my whole engine for a more powerful than standard engine. the head and tubs need replacing. its a 1990 manual in black with leather interior where do i start. what i want to do.

1 replace injectors with 780cc

2 replace tubs with more powerful ones

blitz ecu

3 ported heads? (need advice )

4 new gaskets all round

neoprene vacuum hoses

(shall i bore out cylinders in which case i will need new pistons, rings etc)

what about cam angle sensor?

macca whats my options... the way i see it if im gonna pay for a new engine (£1000 min) might as well spend it on a rebuild. you seem to be the expert on engine rebuilds.

very informative technical advice required and in order of steps and places where i might acquire the things i need please your help is very much appreciated. everybody put your pennys worth in all comments welcome.

What sort of power gains are you after ? If your looking for enough power to require 780cc injectors, then you will also need forged pistons.

macca power lol, seriously i want a well built bullet proof engine that pis**s on R34's when i want to. dont ask for much do i? what do i need to do to put forged pistons in? i want the power when i need it but also want too be able to drive the damn thing safely as well

How much money you looking to spend? What type of power are you looking for?

If you make the car more powerful you tend to make it less drivable at low speeds.

what do you mean "less drivable at low speeds" are you saying it will only be good for racing? and getting caught on speed cameras? so its a rethink AGAIN? :(

it means, that the engine could be rough when idleing or low revs,

Easier to stall,

Clutch is very off or on, very little inbetween.

Problem is you have just jumped in with a small list of mods with out knowing,

A) The cost of them,

2) Advantages and disadvantages of the mods,

d) What other mods would be needed to support them.

You are best setting either

i) A budget and working out what power you will get,

B) A amount of power you want and set out the budget.

what would you do to obtain a powerful but drivable zed i just cant wait anymore. i need to do the heads and turbos to get the car running.what to do??????

I'm in the same place as you. I will rebuilt my engine.

I found on Z1 motorsport a kit that cost 1750$ + 150$ shipping. This kit include:

-Wiseco forged pistons

-Eagle Forged Performance Rods

-Complete Nissan Gasket Kit

-New Nissan Oil Pump/New Nissan Water Pump

-New Nissan Timing Belt

-New Nissan Rod and Main Bearings (you are responsible for providing grades)

It's really cheap and you have all you need to rebuilt your engine.

Then, I will buy AMZ stage2 Turbo. With stock injector, you can have 430 RWHP.

Then, in the futur, I will go with 550cc injector and I can have my uturbo running at 22/25 psi => that's a lot of power :D

1st - whats your budget??

what power do you realistically want?

have you decided on turbos?

LOL I am not an expert on engine builds but the guy that built it is more than an expert at doing so IMHO

However Peter has now moved on to other things. Many garages will claim they know what they are doing and will take all of your hard earned cash and promise you this and that

You seen the 900bhp engine for sale on ebay? Lets just buy lots of parts and stick them all together and get 900bhp without ever having the experiance of producing such power. You have chosen a very expensive and complex option but I wish you all the very best and if I can help you achieve your goal then I will.

Not true at all Stu,I have no problems and my clutch is as easy as a stock one to use. I am running 850cc injectors and it sits rock steady at 1000rpm.The idel speed is only as good as the guy that mapped it.

And how much was your management system, mapping and clutch alone cost? I bet its much more than my entire rebuild cost.

Probably but that has nothing to do with idle and drive ability at low revs, you can stick 850cc injectors and map the car with a stock ecu and still maintain a well balanced idle and have the car drive nice low down the rev range.

Clutch to handle big power is a differant ball game you either go triple plate or carbon carbon thats about all the choice you have.

stock injectors will only go to 370-380 rwhp at most, even then that will be 100% duty, so not safe

But if you are not going to put 850cc on and nothing else. Yes you can have a perfect idle and better low end driving but it costs mega money as you know.

I dont think rebel realises that to get mega power and drivablility he is looking at anywhere from £15000-£30000 worth of mods.

555's are more than enough for 99% of us (big mac excluded!! :D)

pointless going larger without any need.

basically you need to plan exactly what you want from the car! :)

WHAT 15-30K

NO NO NO NO NO !!!! IM NOT THAT WELL OFF...

slowly i think i very well may spend 10 -15k BUT i want to drive my car in between the stages where im upgrading.

1) ill replace the heads and at the same time i'll replace the stock pistons forged pistons (ready for future upgrades)

is there any probs at this stage ie will i need other mods for doing this.

2) the tubs what do i need here? want to acheive 400 - 450 rwhp

see at every stage of the upgrade i dont want one component to trigger of a numerous number of mods requirement so the budget spins out of control.

the problem you have is the power you want ie 400-450 rwhp the standard pistons wont last long so you will be just wasting money so this is what i would do

1 - Make sure you have all stage 1 mods so decent filter ie apexi/blitz, exhaust, decat

2 - Boost controller and ecu remap to 1 bar

The above should see 350 atw ish if done well

If you already need turbos and a new head then i would

3 - Most stage 2-3 turbos will see 400-450 bhp so plenty of choice from the US but try the trader here first

4 - Get your heads sorted and a good port and polish on them to help flow

5 - 555c injectors are going to be more than enough

6 - The Z1 piston/rod/rebuild kit is great value so get that

7 - Brakes & suspension - R33 brakes are a good value upgrade and depending on budget either some koni's/eilbach kit or tein coilovers

8 - Get a dual intake and you will need a new ecu remap for the 555's

9 - Clutch will need changing, i got a 6 puck on my old zed and it was fine and good for 500+bhp so RPS with a matching flywheel should handle the power

10 - Be worth getting something to tweak the fuel ratios ie apexi SAFC or similar

Cant see you getting much change out of £10k but should see you with a pretty driveable 450bhp car thats reliable :)

Kirbz

+ good set of intercoolers

+ bigger radiator

+ bigger oil cooler

+ decent set of gauges
