I thought this might be quite fun to mess around with. Does it actually work? How does it get RPMs etc from the cigarette lighter? Is it in any way accurate?

I got one of those in my Probe (no smart ass coments please)

It just plugs into the lighter (actually rewired mine, as I hate cables) and has some sort of internal device for reading the G-force of the car. I have not tested it yet..........But when the car is reved it mirrors the cars rev counter perfectly :)

Does these work on all cars?

Yes Ken it does mate. You attatch it to the windscreen plug into the cigar lighter and away you go. I got one a few months back not the pro like that one but it works fine. You will need a decent stretch of road because it does depend on a flat surface to a certain degree. They were available on E Bay when I got mine for less than £50

Oh, okay :) Sounds quite good, if I would find one for about £50 I could buy one just to try it out. Sad though that you can only use it on a flat road, hard for everyday use.

i persume it picks up the eletrical signal much the same way as the old car radios with no suppreser sounded----frzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,frzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,frzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, i know shut the fvck up ya nerd :wack:

Sorry look back at my last post on here I have added a couple of links.

The thing is its not what I would call an everyday useage tool? When I used it I found a straight bit of non-busy road and got 3 shots at 0-60 but then cars started to use the road so i had no choice but to go home :( .

But what I got was quite impressive. I got 3 readings for 0-60.

1/. 5.3 secs

2/. 4.8 secs

3/. 4.7 secs

You will need a bit of time to get used to it.

Yep, they're pretty good. quite accurate too.

Johndps used it for 1/4 mile up at Crail and the readings were very close to the official times.

You need to input your cars exact weight to get the bhp readings.

Well The unit is the thing that has got to be horizontal and it suggests that to achieve this the road should be flat. So yes mate I see what you mean. Still IMO. Its only built to test with or be used on a now and then basis. But! I spose you could stick it in and become an opportunist. LOL.
