Hello all,

Need some advice/help. The bolt that holds the starter motor came out again today. The thread on the actual bolt is fine and it seems as though the thread that the bolt screws into has gone. Can anyone suggest how I can get this bolt to stay in.

Cheers

Vijay

Loctite/threadlock if there is some thread left inside. If not you could try tapping the thread to the next size up and using a different bolt. Probably no room to do this. If all else fails Araldite a stud in place and use a nut on the end of it - will probably make removing the alternator a real bugger though.

Cheers Andy,

A mechanic friend suggested that lastbit as in use a stud and put a bolt on the end. I just have to hope it doesn't pack up after doing that.

Cheers for the help.

Or - if the thread has gone, can you not helicoil the hole? I think that only requires drilling the hole out about 2mm..

That'll be the link I was looking for..

Only thing about helicoils is that I dont believe you can install them without special tools - although they are very common in the automotive industry.. Most garages will probably have the required toolage..

Hi VJ

Helicoil is the only way i think.

there is a stronger type called Time-cert

both thread repairs systems are the only way .

DON'T Glue any bolts studs etc in place VVVVVVVery Bad thing to do....
