Time for an oil chance. Been using Castol RS 10-60 over the summer, but am thinking of moving to Castrol RS 0-40 for the winter.

My Reasonings being that the "0" Cold rating is better for the colder months at startup, where a lower cold rating can give better protection to a cold engine for the first couple of seconds.

and the 60 hot rating, tends to apply to High mileage engines (less likely to leak), Tuned engines (generate more heat), and hotter months (heat reasons again).

My engine is pretty much stock and low mileage.

opinions ?

Yes that would be more than OK mate!

Nissan recommends 10w40 semi synth anyway so a 0w40 fully synth will far exceed the levels of protection you need.

I always use 5w40 (Shell Helix Ultra) all year with no problems whatsoever. I get "textbook" oil pressure even in the heat of summer.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi dude, would recommend Millers XSS 10-40w Semi Synthetic if your car has done more than 100,000 Miles or Millers XFS Fully synthetic for under 100,000 - resons for it are you don't need 0-40w in this country as it doesn't get cold enough and it's a bit overkill and also the oil IS NOT as thick as 10-40w and won't offer the Z as much protection at a high temp range and also 10-50w oil is thinner 2 so as Oilman as once stated on here use Semi Synthetic for max protection.. Millers is an awesome oil which is what the rally boys tend to use down here..

.............also the oil IS NOT as thick as 10-40w and won't offer the Z as much protection at a high temp range .........

Sorry to disagree mate but the "40" part is the viscocity when hot so a 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40 offer EXACTLY the same protection in a hot engine as they are the same grade. The "w" part just refers to the ability of the oil to circulate quickly at low temps.

You're right in that the temperature in this country will hardly ever be low enough to need lower than a 10w though. It's just that most brands of fully synthetic are 0w40 or 5w40 anyway. Plus a fully synth is better than a semi synth providing it comes from a good base stock.
