Replaced one of the PCV valves on my Zed today (poss boring thread)

So, I went round to PJ's this afternoon to pick up some PCV valves for my Zed as it keeps dumping oil every so often.....and on startup...AND blows has blown the dipstick out. Last few weeks have been boring...I've not taken it over 3k rpm and have always kept the turbos in vacumme as much as I could.

On hard acceleration originally, it used to smoke a bit...all the time. Didn't when I first bought it and have only covered about 1000 miles.

Anyway, attacked the drivers side first....erm, pipe split, bit a bit of 'modding' and all was well. Bit awkward to get off, but refitted it.

Then came the passenger side. What a complete and utter mare. Before I started to smash things up, I calmly and collectively put the tools down and decided to leave it for another day....too much wiring and crap to remove successfully when I'd already be swearing at the other side.

Anyway, seems to have already made a difference.

On hard boost, it doesn't smoke like it used too. Intermitantly it does, but took a friend out in it earlier and had it on full boost through the first three gears. Changing just before the redline...kept an eye on the rear view mirror and nothing. :)

Where as before, on hard boost, it would smoke a fair bit. Still does it front time to time, but I think once the other one is replaced, it will be a lot better.

Didn't blow the dip stick out either....so result there. :)

Chucked some black soot out on start up earlier. Have a feeling it's pinking a bit. So will be getting the chip changed.

 Can i just ask if you just changed the valves ? or did you re-place the pipes with the filter brushes in them ?? cos no real point just replacing the valves if you are going to leave the crappy filthy pipes on

just a thought ;) ( but if you have ignore this post )

Nope, pipes weren't that bad, just split, I'm going to order new ones. I assume you mean the rubber pipes that clip to the fixed pipes that go round the back of the inlet manifold.

The pipes that come with the pcv's, the kit has 5 pipes and some of them have the filters in them but you need to check which ones.

The small pipe that goes at the back of the engine unless it is slpit dont go near it cos it is a Bugger to get too :(

Nope, didn't get a kit. Just genuine Nissan PCV valves. Had no idea that you were required to change anything else....

Just out of curiosity, does it matter if you throw those filters away?

I need to replace them anyway. But they weren't supplied as a kit. Thanks for the link. :)

Just means all the Sh!te goes back into the engine bud.....:nono: so i would say it matters mate :slap:

they are flame retarders and I belive the UK spec zeds dont have them in the pipes

:D Cheers mike.......didnt know what they was :( just knew they were there....:)

So why were these filters only fitted to the Jap zeds then? Do they have them at all?

Doh!

as sarge says its as important to replace the pcv hoses along with valves as the hoses become hard and crack easy so as soon as you get hoses replace aswell!glad it cured your smoke problem as most zeds with smoke issues 1/10 pcv valve replacement wont make a differance so lucky you, blowing the dipstick is a good sign of poor venting

mine had/has them ;)

mine had/has them ;)

lol mine didn,t is your a series 2? mines a series 1

i've fixed smoking problems 2 times by fiddling with PCV valves, I think one of my valves is sticking open currently as its letting oil into the rear pipe, I have to get around to replacing it,
