What do you guys think about the Pontiac Firebird? The v6 version isn't a rocket, and would do 0-60mph in just under 10 seconds. Keep in mind that you could get a 1995+ for half of the price of a Z (where I live) and that it's technically much more simple than the 300zx. Opinions about the car, please :)

Personally I prefer the older ones, 1970's, although that looks nice!

Nice interior on the zed! interseting door cards....

..but thats not really what your asking. :smash:

pontiac isnt to my tastes. I prefer older American cars.

In the UK you would get laughed at for owning a Firebird and beaten at the traffic lights by everything from your mums runabout to company repmobiles.

Yes looked at a firebird in the US in 1985 about £1400 quid plus import duty of £200 not rust but.................was made in the USA...

Too slow and brash looking IMHO. However I suppose it probably sounds nice but will ride like a boat and wont go round bends!

Wouldn't go that far, the V6 is similar power to the N/A Zed. The LT1 5.7 V8 engine has the same power as the TT Zed. Probably more tunable too. Quite easy to get a reliable 500bhp from these without having to do too much work.

I was looking at a Gen 4 Camaro before I decided on the Zed. Share the same chassis, floorpan and running gear as the Firebird. Known as the F-bodies. I find the Pontiac ugly though.

Have always loved the zed, but the combination of having a RHD AND something that was a bit more affordable, I chose the Zed.

This was how I was planning on getting one if I bought one.

I would save the cash and buy a 1967 Corvette Stingray or a 1970 mustang.....

IMO they are sexy cars......

I like it. not like i like the 300zx or else i spose i would have one. i also like the new mustang?

eeeeuuughh...the new mustang sucks IMO...I think they have ruined the whole soul of the car...

What year is that one?

I keep on your side about the power. You could get a lot out of the 3.4l v6, and even more from the 5+l v8.

Gen 4's are between 93 and 96 iirc. After that, they were changed a bit with boring looking headlights. But had the addition of having the newer LS1 all alloy Corvette engine fitted. So a bit more power.

Okay :)

I'd say generally mid-90s American cars are best avoided: can't think of a single one from that period that wasn't butt-ugly. Even the Corvette went through a bit of a rough patch then, although it's now looking much better again.

Personally I like the Firebird and the Camaro.

The Camaro is quite nice as stock, but on the Firebird I would take away those ugly parking lights, and change the alloys.

Oh, and to add to the previous post. The Firebird looks horribly ugly with the lights up, I wouldn’t drive with them up until its dark enough so you couldn’t se the rest of the car :)

The pre mid-1995 had a 3.4 litre V6 with just 160 hp ! , after 1995, it went to a 3.8 litre with 200hp. (both are very dissapointing figures for such a large performance engine).

Its heaver than the zed, and the 3.4 V6 really is only capable of around 10 secs 0-60.

There are very few American cars that have any credibilty in the UK, and the only ones that do are a few of the Classic Muscle cars.

Yeah the old V6 engines were crap. Buick designed I think. A true 90 degree Vee. Pushrod too like the V8s, but the early V6's were pants.

I've driven the V6 Gen 4 Camaro, whilst it was not quick, it was perfectly capable.

The V8 is a nice engine though and with tuning options, it makes a decent buy. Not suitable on UK roads, but then again, only Ford Fiestas seem to be these days with the state of the road surfaces and current priced of fuel.

Be glad you don't live in the US then. Most of their roads are in quite poor condition (potholes, cracks etc), particularly in California, where the state legislature is particularly short of cash. It's true to say that many of our B-grade and lower classification country roads are in better condition than most of their freeways.

Personally I was really surprised by this given how much Americans love their cars, but it really is the case: I covered about 3500 miles over there in around 3 weeks through California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. As I say, California is by far the worst, but none of them are great.

Unbelievable. Only in America, eh?
