Tyre pressure advise

Hi guys and girl, thought i would pass on todays word of wisdom:

Following two incident`s yesterday when pulling out and getting that loose back end snaking on relatively dry road I checked my tyre pressure and was gobbed smacked to find them to be around 20psi in all four!! trouble is these low profile tyres we all like, look flat when pumped up correctly so just looking at them they looked ok.I am very concious of maintenance etc so was suprised to get caught like this.Check them pressures out, the stability of the car under the slower driving of late (due to snow and ice) had masked the need to inflate my tyres, BE AWARE a quick blast down the lanes by me confirmed a leaner meaner motor for just a little air.

Well, some of you may remember me bitching about my tyres also loosing preasure.

Now I regularly(atleast every 10 days) check my pressures as they seem to want to live around 27psi. The extra 6psi once in, makes the word of difference.

I got caught out when I first got the car and had a flat only to find that it was just down to air loss.

I decided against getting the tyres resealed and there is no gaurantee that the air loss would stop. However, I will more than likely going for a set of new wheels and tyres when my current rubber runs out....but I think the guy who had the car before me actually went for the bullet proof compound as I spin my rears on a daily basis and in 4 months they are not evn half way down.

Has anyone seen a set of platinum effect alloys on a Z? Specifically a white.

You also have a much higher risk of totalling your rims on a pothole with soft tyres.

might have to check the pressure on ours whats it supposed to be? Ours suffers very bad snaking and the rear likes to be up front, but it IS still on jap rubber so to be expected but this should help *slightly* right?

Front 33

Rear 36

PSI of course wink.gif

It really is worth taking off jap tyres, not least because of the fact that they will most probably be illegal becuase of the 'e' marking, or rather the lack thereof. If police/insurance/mot guy is a bit clued up they may spot this and car will be illegall regardless of whether or not the tread is brand new.

And as you say they will perform like poop.

Just letting you know, see you.

I'm about to get some 18 inch rims on my car and I was seriously worried about this because it is hard to tell just by looking when you have such low profiles.

My solution was to get the SmartTire pressure monitoring system. Gives temperatures and pressures in all tyres via a little graphical display. You can set alarms and thresholds on it and it will beep and flash like crazy if you get a problem. Should be getting it fitted this Saturday, I'll let you know what it is like. If you do want to buy, get the system from Pemberton Tyres because nobody seems to have told them that the RRP is £299 and not £145 wink.gif

I think Johnny and SRRAE already have this system so maybe they can say what they think about it?

Andy

Yeah I have it on. Lucky, I have not really needed it. But when Pemberton Tyres put it on I think they perposely put 2 tyres to high. Cos as as I started driving home, the thing went mad saying the my rear was at 40psi, and it was.

Also by front left has a leaking valve. Normaly you wouldnt notice things like that untill its done damage or made the car feel really wiered. A 2psi drop in pressure and the SmartTyre told me.

Its good to get your pressures dead right too. It calaulates what the pressure should be as the tyres warm up too. The car feels so much different when you have all 4 tyres bang on the right pressure. But it does take a few attempts to do it.

Andy,

Demon Tweeks were doing them for £100 and then you'de have to get them fitted. I've got mine sitting in my sitting room - not much good there.

Vijay

Hi Vijay mate. I called Demon Tweeks as Stuart said they may be cheaper. They quoted me the full £299. This was only a few weeks ago as well.

I'm hopefully getting mine fitted tomorrow. We will have to meet again sometime soon and see if its the same kit that we are talking about. One thing I noticed is the one I have isn't the one on their web site, the main display is very different.

Andy

I think ur getting the model, it was just out when I got mine.

Vijay

Let me know when you want the TB's done.

Yeah, will meet up soon. Does your system have a black main unit with a screen that has the car going upward on the display (the one on the web site has the car going sideways). Its got an orange display too, not the blue one on the site.

Cheers,

Andy

Further to this, I was shocked to discover that the rear tyres on my Z were running 20psi frown.gif

I have 18's and you cannot tell by looking at em that the pressure was so low!

So what is the concensus opinion on these tyre-pressure sensors?

Demon Tweeks, Johnny?? And should I be paying £145 or £299?

Thanks guys smile.gif

:)

OK, didn't get mine fitted yesterday so they are being done tomorrow (Monday).

Glen, I can't say whether its any good since I haven't had it fitted yet but Demon Tweeks quoted me £299 for the system. Defintely call them as if they are selling for £100 it is a bargain. Failing that, Pemberton Tyres were selling them for £145 inc fitting, way cheaper than the RRP of £299. Maybe Johnny could do a deal. Do I sense the start of a new GB ??
