Hi all,

Just thought I'd mention this as I think it a a completely convoluted way of revenue generation.

There is now a covert camera on the M42 South bound between junctions 5 (Solihull) and 4 (Shirley/A34). It has been mounted on one of the overhead "active traffic management" structures (the electronic signs which tell you how slow to go ...) and is not signposted or marked in yellow. It's two cameras with a flash unit in the middle. Very difficult to spot but I was sitting in traffic going the other way and saw it go off at least 3 times over a two minute period.

So be warned ...

Cheers for the heads up Danny, those are the two junctions I use the most often as they're both 10 mins away from my house :(

Been wondering for a while if they were going to plumb in active camera's on the new gantries...and it looks like they finally have!

Bugger

Just a thought ... isn't there a law that states all speed cameras must be clearly visible (ie, yellow paint on back and proper signage along the way)? As this camera is completely unmarked anyone receiving a summons may have a case to contest it ... Just a thought though - no excuse to go racing through one and finding out ;)

Suppose we're not as bad in the UK as they are in Holland. A few months ago my sister sent me some pictures of an unmarked speed camera hidden in a wheely bin! Sneaky buggers!

Good point Dan, I think you're right about the whole visibility thing mate. Mind you, wouldn't like to test the theory out! ;) :D

ROFL :D

What were they trying to catch? Speeding Rats? :D

Fook........ Leigh, would i have passed this coming to visit you lats weekend? from M5 way...... As i think the T5 was in warp speed on the journey to you :(

surely you can contest that, should you have been caught, as i thought it was law that fixed cameras had to be signposted 1/4 mile in advance?

Hey Rob, sorry I never replied to this bud! Ended up going back into hospital and only came out again this Wednesday! For what it's worth this late in the day you would've missed it coming M5/M42 way...but I guess you know that by now! :D ;)

Isn't that only if the local plod get some of the revenue back ? If it goes into government coffers then it may not be the case. Needs confirming though ...

I have no idea Andy but going up and down the M42 this week I counted no less than three cameras North bound between J4 and J6 and three South bound as well. Still no yellow plaques, just the normal white signs with a camera on it.
