Mod-Cars and Fuel Consumption

Hi,

Since many people here are going to modify their car in a way or another and many of you already have moded cars... here I have a question for you :0)

We know a stock 300zxTT does between 18 to 23MPG....

now what happens when your car is not more 300BHP but it is 380/400 bhp?

how much worse is the fuel consumptio?...

do you still manage to get 18ishmpg?

this I 'd like to know smile.gif

Thanks

ManicTT

sure...if you drive like a granny wink.gif

actually, I sometimes even get 27MPG if I turn the boost down with my boostcontroller (which doesn't happen very often though biggrin.gif)

I still get very good economy to be honest but then i do drive like a granny biggrin.gif

It is all down to how you drive.

The nice thing about boost controllers is this very point you can drive around town boost turned down ect, then when you want the power it is there for you.

I didn't notice a huge difference when mine was chipped. JWT or SE chip seem to be about the same to be honest.

However, that is the only thing I've done so far so I assume that once the Blitz intake and zorst etc. go on there will be a noticeable difference but considering the chip increases fuel delivery over standard I'd expect a bit less miles per gallon.

Who cares though? Not me! biggrin.gif

IMO there shouldn't be a great deal of difference just by changing intake & exhaust etc. as long as the mapping is still correct (and appropriate). Essentially you're removing restrictions and therefore the engine wastes less power trying to suck in air and then trying to push it out the back, leaving more power for pushing the car along. The reason this theory falls down is this usually gives the engine the potential to make more power, which takes more fuel when it's used. So who doesn't give it a bit of extra welly after they've put on a nice exhaust, when driving past people with small dogs on strings and through tunnels and past cars with open windows etc ! I know I do, and that's where some of the potential economy goes .... biggrin.gif
