only had the car for just over 6 months ,ive changed the fuel filter and air filters buts thats all so far

Depending on it's service history, a plug and oil change wouldn't go amiss, also maybe check the fuel pressure with a gauge to see if the FPR is still within spec?

i have never had a hissing noise when i undo the fuel cap.could that be the fpr doing that.but wouldnt the car run bad if the fpr was wrong??

Sorry mate can you clarify what you mean, you are typing like I do with a bad hangover :)

The hissing noise is normal when you undo the fuel cap the fuel tank is pressurised, and the car can still run well with a dodgy fpr!

...a little out of my depth here but it might be worth checking the Air intake regulator (I think that's what it's called) - at the back of the engine - it works as a choke - if it's stuck, it'd be like running with the choke out all of the time.

Good luck

Hi Jack,

It doesn't operate like a choke and would not really cause high fuel usage, although it is always good to have these items running within spec.

To be honest vaio I would do a plug and oil change first and test the fuel pressure.

...thanks for the info. I've never had any bother with mine (on a NA) but used to have loads of bother with the same piece of kit when it was on my Saab 2.3 turbo. But then the turbo was always blowing oil through the breathing system.

What about those air filters. When I got my na 6 years ago - all looking brand new and pristine, the air filters were completely black. Are you sure they've been cahnged - and did you replace them with 'good' ones?

never had hissing sound on mine either, replaced fpr and didnt make any difference, had fuel pressure test done between the filter and the engine as well and it was fine, never worked it out!
