Right, have thrown the 6x9 idea out of the window. So not going to fit them, just too big.

Current front OEM speakers are 16.5mm iirc. Now will getting 17cm speakers be ok? I want them to fit behind the standard grilles and in the standard frame.

Will this be possible?

you may need to trim the metal a little.. behind the door cars on mine was a metal speaker bracket, the guys from safe n sound trimmed the metal around and then fixed some dynamat in there and the larger uk spec speakers fitted nicely, the jap sizes are non uk

well........... drill out some fixing holes for the self tapping screws, if you dont have any get some proper metal self tappers. not too long though

Thanks guys......what's the deal with 16cm then? Would that fit inside the existing brackets?

ye just, if i mind right i think the holes were just shy of the mounting plate ie on the edge of the hole.

some 17's will go in easier than others, i put pioneer TSG seris in mine, went in with minor mods to the metal plate on the door.
