right its faster than the supra, you would be looking at closer to 60 in 4.9, and they go wrong a lot, yes! Bout all i can tell ya. Oh much better looking than supra and in all honesty this is the wrong place to ask whether the 300 is better than a supra, trust me !

Welcome by the way:D

Welcome start with an N/A about 1992 J is a good model to go for, I think there is a nice back manual one for sale in the cars for sale section..........

Hi Jay, welcome to the forum. The 300zx is a good choice!

what are they like?

Well, in all honesty, i think your gonna get very biast replys to that. But IMHO i love them to pieces, just make sure that you read the buyers guide in the FAQ section before looking at a Z.

seen quotes of 60 in 7.1! this cant be right can it??!!

Ahhhhhhh Max Power strikes again, a stock 2+2 TT will hit 60 in about 5.6 secs and go on to a limited 155mph!

how are they to work on and what they like to get parts?

Parts are not a problem, servicing can be done by yourself with basic tools, but if your not that mechanically endowed, its best to use a 300 specialist, there are quite a few all around the country!

heard that the engine has to come out every time something cos wrong cos its so cramped in the bay?

Not true, but bigger jobs like turbo's etc it would be better if you pulled the engine

do things go wrong much?

Again, read the Buyers guide, but in all honesty, the only real thing is to check the history of the car. Also if its a Jap spec Auto, make sure its got a gearbox oil cooler on it, because the boxes arent the strongest things ever made

In stock form, No. The supra TT has a 0-60 time of 4.9 but once a aftermarket Boost controller is fitted, you'll whoop a poopra, i do on regular occasions!! :D

Also, keep a look out in the car sales section on this ere forum, many good Z's for sale at the mo!

do things go wrong much?

as much as you'd expect on a car thats up to 15 years old. Dont think you can expect trouble free motoring, but mine has been ok in the 4 months i've had it, with only a broken slave cylinder.

Sounds like the NA 0-60 figure. So it is right.

cool, thought 7.1 for a 3.0 tt was kinda slow!

im not going to be doing loads of barry boy starts of the lights and rag it so with out drivin like that should it be reliable?

i had a mr2 turbo last an that seemed ok just silly things went wrong like any car, if a 300 tt is not ragged 24/7 and looked after should it be ok and as reliable like most jap car ie mr2, scoob, 200sx s14 n so on?

if they are as reliable and te same to maintan as a 200sx , mr2 turbo then i'll go buy one, sure that 3.0 tt engine will sound real nice!

were in essex are you ? i'm not too far from harlow and there a few more of us around if u need someone to go with you or take u for a spin

im in southend. i'd be well happy for someone to take me out for a spin in a TT! never been in one! if i went in one an thought yeah this is rapid then i'll defo get one.

think there maybe a meet at a pub on the a127 near basildon as i went past on a sunday before and see a load of 300's

and lastly! are they as quick a the supra tt? (wanted one but i dont have 9k!) is the 300 tt the next best thing, or even better!

The thing is supras are more expensive, but if you bought a decent tt for around 3k, spent 2k on some upgrades , goodies and a proper full service you would have a far superior (and faster) car.

Supras are a bit like BMW's. Overpriced and ugly.

Hello mate,

I just sold mine   but just to let you know I used mine as a daily runner for 2 years running upped boost etc and did 20000 miles in it and she never let me down once  only thing that ever went on me was a few rubber water pipes but 15 year old rubber has got to go some time :) so if you get a good one and look after it then they shouldnt be any different to any other car out there.

good luck with what you get, and trust me the zed is an amazing car also has the best club forum of all jap cars

Cheers

Ant

well i gotta sell my mr2 for £2500 a set of porsche alloys so i can get 3k to buy a 300 TT, if i save abit more then 4k

im doing temp work at the moment till i find something full time so i wanna make sure i aint gonna have a expensive car that gives my problems all the time and keep brakin.

im lookin at a 300, scooby, 200sx s14 will they all cost prity much the same to run n reliable as each other?

The best advice i would give is look around for insurance first fella and see how much that is going to cost you ;)

All depends on how old you are

got that all sorted out! 300 tt £570, scoob £1200 and 200sx s14 only £490 and im only 21!!!!! at 20 i was only payin £744 for my mr2 turbo with alloy, full s/s filter and bodykit decleared

Good looks, really comfortable and a serious sports car that pulls like a train on amphetamines.

seen quotes of 60 in 7.1! this cant be right can it??!!

If mine had ever done a 0 to 60 in anything more than 5 seconds I'd have had it burnt out and claimed the insurance. Had mine six years and personally done 90,000 mile in her before the head gasket went. She had an induction kit. boost valve jobby thing and good exhaust system when I got her so never knowm what a standard Z is like.

They are a bast*rd to work on because you connot have that power and technology squashed into such a small space and think its going to be like working on a Astra. Parts are easy to get hold of from Nissan, plenty US suppliers, Z club and including some really good people on here who'll not only grt you the parts but if your a club member you'll get serious dicounts.

Most important thing though is the people on this club forum are sound. You only need to go to any large events to realize that most members of the other Jap car clubs are complete t*ssers.

heard that the engine has to come out every time something cos wrong cos its so cramped in the bay?!

Only for Turbo changes and engine rebuilds. However it is tight in there, but most of your best experienses will be in tight holes that result in being a bit of a bitch to live with. The rewards are worth it so long as you don't stray too far away from standard. That potentionally means realistic 450bhp. which in Skyline, Evo, Impretzia and Supra land means 600bhp. Once you start looking for serious HP it gets really painful and usually you run out of dosh or sanity stops you from remortgaging before its too late.

It's not a Lambo and never will be. Neither is a Supra. Though a Supra may be a cheeper car to run in the long run.

do things go wrong much?!

Not if you keep it simple and realize 450ish BHP is the limit for reliability.

and lastly! are they as quick a the supra tt? (wanted one but i dont have 9k!) is the 300 tt the next best thing, or even better!

NEXT BEST THING FFS. The 300zx is beautiful, but the Supra is Hidious.

Which would you rather be seen with.

A) a sleek bird thats good looking and not your run of the mill or

B) a ugly bulbous rotund bird whos as comon as muck.

and as for quickest. I'd say if you ask that question i'd proberbly be quicker than you if you were in a Supra and I was in a Fiesta.

OOOOOOOOOOWW beware the Fiesta man will get you

what checks should i do on the engine? cos my last turbo i got i thought was a good engine and turbo but it didn't boost much 5psi and wouldn't really go after 5k rpm!

with 2 turbos how do i check both r good? i mean if there is 2 turbos those that mean to lots of psi, say one could boost 10psi and the other 14psi ,idont mind gettin a tt that needs little bits doing but i want to know what and how to check things like turbos and things that can go wrong and cost a pretty penny to fix as i dont have tons of money at the moment so dont wanna have a broken tt sittin outside my house that costs to much to fix or a engine out jobbie

will 3/3.5k get me a good 91 odd tt car?

im lookin at a 300, scooby, 200sx s14 will they all cost prity much the same to run n reliable as each other?

Welcome :)

Cost the same to run....No! The 300zx was just shy of £40k at its end of its UK production run in 1994 (it continued till early 2000 in Japan) and you have to expect its maintence costs to reflect this. It is the original japanese supercar and a much more powerfull, faster and higher class car than your other choices.

As much as I respect the other cars abilites they are no comparison. The Scooby is just the high performance version of an ugly Cheap plasticky Saloon (and is extremely common with a declining image problem) and the S14 is a £20k Sports coupe designed for the masses.

The 300zx will cost more to maintain just like a £30k Bmw will cost more to maintain than a £15k mondeo, but you get far more for your money !!

Its generally a well built, reliable and over-engineered car, like most japanese cars but its all about buying a carefully looked after example and continueing to look after it with regular periodic maintanence !

The supra TT and 300zx TT are worthy rivals. Toyota had to go back to the drawing board for a 2 years when the zed was released.

The Supra has the performance advantage with its higher boost level as stock, and its tuning advantage with its 555 injectors and slighly more efficient Stock turbo's..although the Zed engine is more efficient at equal boost levels.

should i be able to find a 91 odd tt for £3.5k?

would a tt kill most things on the road? is the power all high in the power band?

do they pull well in the low end and speeds to crap on rs turbos an cossie's n stuff?

Plenty of low-down grunt in a ZX tt mate - the twin turbos are of the hybrid variety and not too big, so they spool up quicker.

The pull from 2000rpm is adictive and leaves most cars dissapearing in the rear view mirror with minimal effort. But the overtaking ability from say 3000rpm is awesome!

I couldn't have put it better than Legrath said earlier

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i think the twin turbos bother me alot, how long they last + i will have a t timer.

what is the cheapist price to replace a turbo and havin it fit? i guess if the engine has to come out to remove a turbo then not the type of thing u can d.i.y?

anyone? cos this is one of the things i need to know most!
