Indicator flashes v.fast intermitently...bulbs work

Im guessing it could be the signs of one of the indicator bulbs going but normally they just blow.

Is there any other reason for this fast flashing?

It only happens when i first use the indicators after leaving the car for a while and is then fine after a few seconds...returns to normal flashing speed.

Thanks for the ideas chaps

crap connectors.

Definetaly sounds like the earth connection is a good bet

IIRC, unless they now use electronic timing chips, the indicator flashes as a result of a bimettalic strip which heats up when current flows and then bends due to the two different metals as it heats up and breaks the contact, the current stops flowing, the strip cools and makes contact again. The process goes on. Maybe there is a problem here? Does it happen on both sides and what happens with the hazards?

It only does it on the right side????

Not tried it with hazards yet...will do.

Although it didnt do it today :smash:

Perhaps there is moisture in the contact, that would possibly cause it to cool quicker and hence flash faster?

They all use electronic flasher modules in the fuse box these days.

Bad connector/earth would give this symptom.

The fast flash is the flasher module sensing what it thinks is a failed bulb, and telling you by flashing quickly.
