300ZX vs 3000GT

Hi guys

I'm in the market for either a 300ZX or Mitsubishi 3000GT but I can't decide which. Is there anyone with experience of both? The criteria I'm most interested in are; long distance comfort and drifting capability (I currently own a 200SX which excels at the later but not the former).

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated.

Well before we bought the Zed we looked at a couple of GTO's and my dad couldnt fit in them so we had the Zed. The longest journey ive been in the Zed is 150 miles and its pretty comfortable. Also it'll be a lot easier getting the Zed out of a straight line than a GTO which is 4WD.

I do hundreds of miles a week in Z, it is well comfy..the seats are essence. I am 6ft 1 have no problems....storage for gear can be a problem..but didnt buy it for that!!!

But the z

http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/Articles/zxmag.htm very nice article read about it and you be the judge

my money everytime would be on the 300zx as a drivers car. Its a well established fact that the 3000gt is a dull drivers car. I have driven one and it is not as nice.

But then im sure there are loads of happy 3000gt drivers lol

Warren I have also driven one,but much prefere the Z so I bought one wink.gif.

Yeah I have heard the the driving experience is detached from the GTO/3000GT. You dont get any feedback from the car. Nice V8 though.

However you are asking this on a Z forum, if you goto a GTO/3000GT forum they will just slag the Z off and say their car is better.

I have driven on holiday in my Z and my bum didnt even go num, and the electric drivers seat means you can change the position/height of it with out haveing to sift your weight around. just press a a button and you can, rise/lower, move forward/back, and tilt the seat.

SRRAE they are a V6 just like the 300zx except its mounted the other way (i.e. not longitudaly like the 300) I suppose that also spoils the lovely roll u get on the zed when u floor it

also fact of the day is: did you know that in Japan Mitsubishi actually make a version of the Galant with the V6 twin turbo lump from the GTO in just with 500cc chopped off. I bet thats a rocket hehe biggrin.gif

A well respected member, Henri (H Le Hir, see profile http://www.300zx.co.uk/UBB/ubbmisc.cgi?action=getbio&UserName=H+Le+Hir for e-mail), has 2 Zs and a Dodge Stealth. I think the Stealth is a US re-badged GTO/3000GT.

The main difference I have seen is that a Z is more of a drivers car, while the GTO has alot of the 'feel' taken out. I previously had an Imprezza Turbo, and the same thing was said when compared to the Lancer EVO. It must be a Mitsubishi thing?

I would guess that Henri would be a valued contact on this question.

stuart lol good input. biggrin.gif (and you give techi advice) wink.gif

The whole thing boiles down to personal choice i would say.

Thought the GTO was a V6, the last article I read said it was a V8. Strange

Stuart where did you read that Maxpower?LOL biggrin.gif.

Fact of the day for clarkey tongue.gif

You dont need to go as far as Japan for your Twin Turbo Mitsi Galant. Its quite literally available at your local Mitsi dealer, just pop in and ask for a Galant VR4.

Its 276bhp 268 lb.ft torque, 4wd active yaw, its pretty much a Misti Evo but with a v6 and different body shell

See ya wink.gif

Before anyone flames me about the fact its nothing like a Mitsi Evo with.... etc etc

drove both the new and old shape GTO'S. Guess it just depends what you're into. Personally i find the 300 very nimble and easy to drive. Its extremely comfortable even over long distance but i havent driven a GTO on a long journey so i cant comment. I found the GTO to be a little heavy. Maybe im just wierd but it just didnt feel right compared to the 300.

Oh well happy hunting mate!!! , i would say have a zed but then again im biased!! wink.gif

I took a GTO for a test drive before buying the zed... GTO was nice but on fast acceleration the front lifted up and down (felt like one of those american shock jobbies!) - nice body but pre 94 has pop up headlights, very MR2 and very 80's, nedless to say I bought the zed

Robb

Thank's for the advice and much appreciated.

Look at the archives, as I already replied about this very topic numerous times.

Basically, you cannot go wrong with either car.

I personnally prefer the Z (that's why I own two of them), but the Stealth RT/TT (a 3000 GT VR4 TT with a US body) can hardly be beaten on snow and Ice.

If you want to discuss any further, send me an e-mail to vg30dett@compuserve.com, or we can discuss it over the phone

Zee you
