hi people.my top end seems to have given up.there is alot of engine rattle noise non stop especially wen revving.i found out after that my engine had an oil leak which must have drained my oil completely as there was nothing in there wen i checked as soon as the rattle started.i just wanted to know if there is any cure of it or does it mean that i need to get a whole new engine???i would be greatful.

could be your heat shield rattling mate as thats common , Or does it sound like its coming from inside the engine ?? Also what does the noise sound like ?? Like a cam noise or tappety noise ?? bit more info bud.

try replacing the oil with a fully synthetic 10-40 or 10-60w use the correct amount 4ltrs is normally perfect which includes the filter

 

if still noisy its probable the lifters have been drained of oil or lacking,also lets hope the bottom end bearings havnt been damaged from oil starvation if its lifters its plenum off and covers and camshafts and 24lifters replaced @£12 each approx.

 

hope some new oil helps

i had a noise which sounded rather tappety, put oil in and it stopped but the leak drained it again and i had to have my bearings sorted...then it started leaking again and i noticed the noise come back...ive since changed the oil and every morning i look under the car and listen for it..KEEP OIL IN IT AND GET IT TO BAGGINS!
