What do I need to get the information about the car outputted to a computer as Legrath has done here?

 

 

I know its called the ConZult, but are there many hardware and software versions of it? I found this on the TTZ Performance website, but it doesn’t seem to have an output which looks like Legrath's. The one on that website seem to cost 600 Australian dollars (~360€), are they all in that price-class? Oh, and if anyone know of anyone in GB/Europe who sells them, please post up a link :)

The Software is Nissan Datascan sold by http://www.blazt.biz You'll need the Software and Cable.

Thanks Legrath, the 'Datascan' seem to be a lot cheaper than the ConZult as its only 115USD (ConZult about 400USD). Is there a big difference between these two, if I buy a ConZult,can I use the Datascan software? They seem to be able to output all the same things, I wonder what makes the price difference. the Datascan seem to only be a cable with a Consult connector and a USB/Serial connector, while the ConZult have some kind of hardware between.

What is the required laptop/system specification to run this software??

I run it on an old P2 400Mhz laptop (running windows 98). Its not exactly processor intensive.

You can get the Blatz cable in dedicated USB too, costs about 15USD more than RS232 (Serial). :)

I saw a Pentium 133 mhz with 64mb memory today in car boot sale for £20, wanted to buy it and keep it in the car just for this.

Not sure about the Blatz, but ConZult's minimum requirements is 166mHz...

Hi Ken,

 

I am the official UK distributor for the ConZult diagnostic kit. Yes, Datascan is a lot cheaper than the ConZult but you can not compare the two - they are in different leagues. Please understand that I mean no disrespect to the creators of Datascan and those who use it but I would not personally waste my money on it. You're buying this type of equipment because (a) you want to be able to view accurate real-time sensor feedback, (b) you want to perform "one-click" ECU, Engine, Transmission and Heating system diagnostics, and © you want to perform certain workshop operations. Datascan will perform (a) and (b) to a certain extend but where the real value of this equipment comes into play is the data interpretation and workshop functionality. If you're looking for a nice display of moving clocks and guages then Datascan equipment will do that for you. If however you're looking to extract real value from the equipment then you're only option is to purchase a ConZult diagnostic kit. We have many customers (a majority are also members on this forum) who rave about the ConZult, how much they have learned about their car and how much money they have saved on avoiding unnecessary repairs. We also have several Nissan franchise dealers who use our equipment rather than Nissan's own Consult kit. Furthermore, ZTech, The Zen Garage and ZedWorld (amongst other performance specialists) use the ConZult on a daily basis and wouldn't be without it.

 

At the end of the day the decision is yours and the only thing I can do is point out that the ConZult is far superior to any other so-called diagnostic kit out there. The reason why it is considerably more expensive is the it was designed from scratch by two Zed experts. They've spent an unmentionable amount of their time perfecting the software and modifying the hardware to work seamlessly on not only the 300ZX but also 200SX, 100NX, Primera, Almera, Skyline, Pulsar/Sunny, etc. It truly is a stunny piece of equipment.

 

As for the minimum requirement, our ConZult will run happily on a Pentium 1 166MHz with 32Mb of Ram. My suggestion is you run it on a Pentium 1 233MHz laptop with 64Mb RAM and a decent graphics card. A CD-ROM drive is also a must as this is how we supply the software and usermanual. OS wise it'll run on Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000 and XP.

Thank you very much for your reply Dan. Yep, I would like to have those moving clocks and gauges, but I would also like more accurate information needed when there is something wrong with the car. Is it possible to modify the ConZult software, or get some software which could output some sort of gauges you could have there just looking nice? I read somewhere that all Serial -> USB converters wont work with the ConZult, do you ship converters or dedicated USB cables for the ConZult which works with it?
