My mate bought our old 200sx (s13) and we had it chipped with a boost controller boosting it from 7?psi to about 13psi.

Anyway - his turbo gave out in the end so he removed the boost controller and bought a 2nd hand but good condition replacement turbo from another s13.

Im sure he says he checked it and it was marked up exactly the same.

Fitted it and its boosting at 12psi as standard without a boost controller now?

Any ideas why it would be doing this as he was going to refit the boost controller but is now not going to bother?

Is it just down to a very good condition turbo boosts higher than an old worn one? or do you think it maybe a hybrid Turbo or something.

Cheers

Check the difference in adjustment on the actuator rod (number of threads sticking through etc) as compared to the original one.

Cheers Baz - is that fairly easy to do on the car?

what do you think then - someone's just wound the actuator out a little?

There must have been a boost leak before, or the turbo was knackered.

Standard boost is 10psi, although they vary a bit from car to car.

Has the car got a sports exhaust and filter? if so 12psi is about right.

Yep - has got both fitted mate.

so would it be worth fitting the boost controller and upping it to about 14-15psi? do you think
