I've got a '93 UK TT with 117k on the clock. What oil should i use...Mobil 1 cause its a performance engine or something a bit thicker cause of the mileage? - and what about additives like Slick 50.

Mobil do a 15w-40 and a 0w-40 at my local Halfords, which is best for my Z at 52K miles

I would personally say the 0-40 is a little thin

thanks for the advice guys, oil change due soon so i know what to get now. Point taken about the Slick 50.

In the case of Mobil-1 it is (as I think mobil-1 is shite) but the "40" refers to viscosity when hot, which is Nissan's recommendation. I use Shell Helix ultra 5w40 with no problems at all.

If you have a modified engine though, the extra heat generated will require a "50" or even "60" oil.

The "w" number is viscosity when cold - ie how quick will the oil circulate around he engine upon start-up. Especially in winter. The lower the better, Nissan recommend a 10w so the Mobil 15w is too thick from start up and should be avoided. Anything lower than 10w is fine though - better probably.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Oilman says that with a GOOD oil, say the Silkolene Pro S, changing at 3k is not needed. Throwing money away for no reason.

I guess someone is going to say "beter safe than sorry" but if its OK to change at 5-6k, then simply its OK.

I would agree with this too Mark.

If you use a high quality fully synthetic 3000 mile changes are definately overkill. In fact the oil doesnt have sufficient time to clean and remove scum and impurities etc. On a fairly stock engine I'd say 5000 miles is more than frequent enough. Most mechanics I've spoken to second that....

Check the colour of your oil at 3000 miles - if like mine it is still gold then a change is not due.

After all Nissan recommend 6000 mile changes on a semi-synthetic but I wouldn't risk that on a high performance twin turbo'd engine.

...whipped a Scooby today too, i just love letting them go by, boosting there ego only to be past 10 seconds later by my fighter jet at mach 1. I make a point of being close enough when i overtake to see the dum look on their face just like in the film "Top Gun" only i'm not upside down when i give the bird.

Welcome to the scary world of Zed, i've only had mine a few months, finger's crossed it's only cost me a battery so far, oh an about £1,000,000,000 in fuel as i can't keep my foot off the GO!!!!! pedal.

I've had the pleasure of DOING 2 scooby's since owning it, an there ain't a much better feeling TBH. Must try the foreign relations thing next time tho LOL.

Have hour's of fun m8 in your motor, the guy's on here will help you no end as i have found out.
