Okay, this is no speed/acceleration question :p I'm wondering, which is more sustainable? I know you can break the manual in two seconds if you like, but in every day use, what do you think?

The Auto can be very fragile, and does'nt like to handle much more power than standard.

the Manual however is very very strong, failure is virtually unheard of and is able to handle double the stock power output without problems.

Yeah i have to say manual is the best. Although my next Zed will be an auto, just cos im a lazy git.

Bagins autobox me thinks!!!!

Yep, I also thought about the thing that the auto is more comfortable, but that’s a quite small thing so it doesn’t really matter for me in the end..

Also without the extra oil cooling of the standard UK-spec car, the J-spec autos can fry much quicker when driven harder and faster over here than they were back in the Land of The Rising Sun.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

When I got my "everyday car" I was thinking about getting a manual 300ZX and having both? Not to be greedy but I thought the manual would make a better everyday car? You see threads all the time saying how the auto is weaker than the manual and how the manual is faster and so on. It can infact do your fookin head in? I didnt get one I got a Volvo. My auto dosent get a lot of use. (intentionally) and runs fine with no major problems yet. If its treated good it will be good. I hope.

Talking about cooling, I was thinking about Intercoolers the other day.. How much does a effective Intercooler effect the 300zx?

STandard Spec IC's are just good enough to do the job if running standard boost but upgrading to bigger thicker core jobbies will do wonders in lowering intake temp's etc. Cooling is everything on a Z!

Thanks :) I'll keep that in mind when the time comes for me to get some upgrading parts :)

I had this same issue when I was looking for a zed. I think just about everyone asks about it. I bought a manual because I thought it would be more fun to drive, and because I'm a control freak. I've never looked back. However, driving it around town isn't much fun, and TBH I think an auto would probably be better if you're doing a lot of urban driving. That said, it just isn't that kind of car so you might want to consider something else as a runabout in that case.

Scott has organised a plot at crail strip on the 18th I'll be there with my totaly standard if currently a little doggy body wise Manual TT if any standard Auto TT owners fancy a blast..

P.s after fitting three yes three auto boxes "All failed with the same fault slow gearchange then no reverse" to my Supra Turbo I'm never touching another Jap auto car

manual all the way for me.

went through 3 autos and then converted to manual.................not everyones as unlucky though!!!

manual depends on driver - easy to damage the clutch with 300BHP ?

auto more complicated - so more to go wrong - but they are good boxes and auto protects box to some extend from driver. IMO.
