Getting right pissed off.

Washing car doesnt ever clean the soot like deposits off the rear - it gets covered and I MEAN covered in black sooty shite.

It will come off with either an oily rag or some isopropyl alcohol, then I wash the car - drive it up the dual carriageway to dry it - come back and theres a thin mist of black over the rear again.

I dont notice it smoking if I boot it a bit, but every now and then I get a little puff of dark smoke when on low revs after I have been out and about at speed.

Does it sound like turbos are knackered or just running rich?

is it greasy or are the deposits dry just like dirt?

The ZX tends to make a vortex behind it when it moving so road dirt kicked up by the tyres gets sucked on to the back of the car.

Try giving your exhaust tail pipes a good clean, then any deposits coming from there is easy to notice.

mate - its like dry black soot.

the exhausts are HUGE :) and stainless so if I clean them out they go black instantly.

I know one side was dodgy but duffer told me it should be all right coz it was stuck in the middle range.

Mine leave a similar mess on the back of my car. Dunno how to do an 02 check. :(

I had mine done with conzult.

I dont know if the ecu diag tests o2?

What chip are you running and maybe get an fuel pressure test while you are at it?

Worth doing an emission test or diagnostic to check O2 sensors. I'm pretty sure the O2 sensors are not controlling when at Idle, so if you do an emission test make sure to increase revs into the opperating range.( any MOT centre can do this)

F**kers to change, deffo need a man with skinny arms for this one. I had to get a mate to do mine. You will need a special tool to change the sensors. either a crows foot, or I bought a long series socket and milled a slot in it.( need somewhere for the cable to go)

Once I did mine there was no more black soot on the back of the car. Efficiency also inceased from 15 to 20 MPG(urban)

ive got the same problem, a layer of black powder all across my rear bumper. i think its cos the car's running rich. apparently any Conzults are coming up clear.

Fuel pressure doesn't show up on the Conzult, also some chips run overly rich so it is worth considering what map you have?

Dont know about Jay, but my Z is running a JWT (but a JD map is going in soon so twill be interesting to see if theres any difference). Strangely I only got the deposits once converted from auto to manual

Your running rich! A couple of things to check;

engine coolant temperature sensor

MAF sensor connections and check

O2 sensors are operating correctly at 2000rpm

The O2 sensor will tend to be lazy if not at operating temperature and when running at idle
