I'm changing my brakes...

Need a bit of advice as I am considering servicing my calipers myself, checking pistons and changing seals.

Has anyone done this themselves and how easy is it to do myself - Don't want to find out that when I go to brake, the car doesn't stop.

Also replacing the fluid and going to get an off the shelf fluid - I have been told that I should use a Synthetic one.. Any idea of a decent brand I could pick up in my local store rather than ordering.

Anything I should watch out for when changing pads / discs and cleaning the calipers..

Cheers.

I think it's easy, but I do this sort of stuff quite a lot.

There will be a few How To arrticles around

I use Castrol Super Response DOT4.1 fluid, available in Halford and all GOOD motor shops etc

Cheers, have heared about BigRed as Smithy has had his done there. May do this in a couple of months time but want to crack into it myself first and as I have just bought some Pads and Discs, haven't really got the £500+ to get them done there yet.

not that bad dude, charged me to rebuild my rears £110 delivered back to me over the water ( also with a teflon finish - so they will hopefully never rust again !! ) the front where only marginally more that.. Yeah it was smithy that informed me in the first place .....i post up a pic to show you the difference.......

Better than brand new...

defo worth doin, but then again, i'm doin everything else while i'm at it, looks awesome with the dba's i got from smithy by the way!!

Thanks for the advice - definitely go for that in the near future - will clean them up this time myself, any ideas on the best stuff to use to clean them up (there is no visible rust as of yet - famous last words eh!!).. Will be spraying them myself this time so need to prepare them for the paint.

Aye yer can't go wrong really, stripped, rebuilt with new seals and new pistons, coated in teflon black or red and then rebuilt and tested, for just over a 100 quid the pair, not worth getting yer hands dirty

smithy

seen in another thread that ur goin for the brembo's with the porterfields Rob....speak to smithy bout the dba's.....that combo does rock dude!!

Yeah, have ordered the pads from Smithy and still decided on the discs... Heard good reports on both combos...

Cheers - Hope all work out with yours...
