Just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be causing my speedo not to work. This problem has only just started. It happens when i first go to drive the car. The speedo does not work. Then after about a mile it works and will work all day no problem. Or could it be after it has warmed up? I know its not the speed sensor as thats new and the box is new. So what could it be FFS

Any ideas lads as this is driving me mad. It happend again today. Pulled out of camp...........nothing. Got on the banny and after about a mile it started to flick up and down a little then 20mph, 40mph (by now i was doing bit faster!), then ; presto!!!! it came to life and read the correct speed. Why? Is it the de restrictor?

If you have a converter on the car it might be that playing up, or could be the wiring from the speed sonsor, or it could be the speed sensor itself. I know youve got a new one on there, but even new things can brake.

Hi I had the same problem a while back - annoying as hell. On my JDM auto everyone said it would be the converter de-limiter thing but it turned out to be related to the electro-mechanical speed sensor so I fitted a brand new one ordered from nissan main dealer problem solved. But check out my journey to find out why?

My symptoms where that it occasionally stopped reading and just dropped down to zero and then occasionally worked a bit then didn't. The worst ever was when I was going up to RAF leuchars and was in the absolute middle of no-where middle of the night and my autobox stuck in neutral refusing to shift up or down having lost the speed info right at the crucial time. My cruise control was effected every time the speedo failed and would also not work / then work occasionally work etc.. Anyway I inspected the old speed sensor and stated to figure that the shaft had worn to the point that it could not get proper purchase on the gear that was driving it in the box hence the fail gradually failure mode or...... That the heat could make a difference as the boxes run really hot so maybe it is working until it gets hot. Mine would work at higher speeds so maybe it was cooled down (in short I was disappearing up my own arse - zeds have that knack as the little demon in your brain says - these cars are too complicated for mere mortals!) Anyway it was just a dodgy wire that blew into the right position at various speeds always above 80mph! The wire to the speed sensor has to be tie-wrapped up out of the under car airflow and comes complete with an OE clip for the purpose. Mine wasn't clipped up after a recent service so it had very quickly waggled itself to death after a "it'll do" which left the wire dangling with the OE clip swinging on it !!!!

fixed now. Hope that saves you some heart ache bro
