is there any way to find out if it is pipes or pump leaking before it goes in for repair????

you can strip down to the water pipes and check them, i thought my water pump was knackered but the leak was from one of the small metal water pipes, they had both corroded badly. cost about £50 for the pair from mjp. had water pump and timing belt changed at same time as i have no record of if/when they were last done.

hour at the most... follow upto 11 of this

(dont bother with the petcock, just take off th lower rad hose)

then remove the water pipes (you'll need a long reach allen key)

this picture shows the water pipes u need to check behind the rubber ones
