Just got this e-mail, thought i'd give you guys a look:-

"We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced

> with paying £1 a litre.

>

>

> This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain

> day" campaign that was going around last April or May 04! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

> BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

>

> The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if

> we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!

> And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

>

> For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two

> biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.> But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers.

> It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) .... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people.

> That's all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE""

This has been attempted so many times it will not work.

The petrol has been going up due to war, terrorism and China increasing economy. Not buying petrol on a Monday will not help solve these problems.

it is a varient on the chain letter emails designed to make mail servers crash by causing massive traffic flows...though its approach is novel and the argument sound its flawed cos the majority of households (and therefore drivers) dont use the web so wont get the message

FFS petrol prices are only going up because of greed the war crap is just a story fed to us by higher authorities because they know the english are so gullible,, other countries dont stand for this shit we DO !!!!

I had to pay 99.9p a litre at Watfoed Gap north bound for super unleaded on Monday.

Thats what I pay around here.....if it hits a £1, I aint buying it....I dont really want to run my car on normal unleaded though!!!

80% of the price of fuel is TAX!!! .. It's GOV we wana hit not the Oil companys

so true!!! lost count of the amount of these threads on car forums!!

80% of the price of fuel is TAX!!! .. It's GOV we wana hit not the Oil companys

Duty is around 45%....but it feels like 80%

found this article

Petrol duty raises around £22.3bn a year - around 6% of total government revenues. A 1p cut in fuel duty would cost the government some £420m. Add the VAT and we are talking about a sizeable portion of public revenues.

Yeh duty may not be as much as people think, but once duty is applied to the base price of fuel they then add VAT - tax on tax anyone!!!! - therefore we pay one of the highest fuel duties in the EU even though the base cost of fuel per litre in this country is one of the lowest in the EU.

As for boycotting ESSO and BP (where's Shell in that list?????) how will that hurt them much? as last time I looked Tesco's etc don't have any oil refineries so all they are doing is bulk buying from Esso, BP and Shell and using it as a loss leader to bring you into their stores!!!!

If you've got issues with the price of petrol it's the Gov't you need to take to task, but don't hold your breath as Mr Brown predicted 3.5% growth in the economy and he's only getting 1.6%.

Therefore the fact oil is at $60+ a barrell means some of the shortfall in the Gov't burn money as fast as you can plan is made up, so he can't do what the French Gov't is predicted to do and hand back the windfall tax they are making from higher oil prices to lower the price at the pump. Rock and a hard place comes to mind

.......... PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE""

Dream on - we'll never see those prices again no matter how many motorists boycott the pumps or which ever party governs the country. :nono:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Move to Scotland the fuels about 10p a ltr cheaper than you blokes are paying currently 86p per ltr

Isn't everything cheaper up there, mate?

Richard :)

You know thats true. It's handy being a mechanic cuts the "tyres" cost down but you still have to deal with the "Tits" in more ways than one :)

I,ve sed it before we are paying for the fookin olympics and speed cameras

We sure as hell aint payin for decent roads, better lighting on motorways or little sh*ts to stop from raping, murdering, mugging, and being general tossers in society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I,M SOOOOOOOOOOOOO FOOOKIN MAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This thread cracks me up. everyone is saying how mad they are about the prices then putting down an idea to show that people are concerted enough to take action. That is why this, or any other plan wont work., because basically the British population have lost whatever "bulldog" spirit they ever had. The population oif britain today couldn't run a corner shop never mind an empire.

What also makes me laugh is the very people we all slag off (the french) do what we should be: if they dont like something they revolt, they kick off in the street, they storm govt. offices. We sit back with our stiff upper lip and take it ana11y from succesive goverments. We all think its terrible that immigration is going wild, that we pay road tax that doesnt go on roads, the NHS has more managers than nurses and we moan and do SFA about it.

Now I know two things, the petrol strikes didnt overly concern the big companies but they did concern the government. Why? because if the government thinks for one second that they have been stupid enough to wake the dormant spirit that is (hopefully) still within every british person enough that Mr & Mrs Smith actually get off there arse and do something then they are bang in trouble.

And for anyone who doesnt think they were worried why did they put the army on standby? That might not seem a big thing but this wasnt to replace the firemen, or the ambulancemen but to control the british public, not to provide a service, but to maintain law and order. Thats a big thing in britain.

So moan away, if you must, but I think if your not prepared to stand up and be counted by your actions then you should sit down in your corner and STFU

Me to !! Mate got his CAR nicked cops told him there was little or no chance of it being found. Drove off laughing "He went f**** nuts"

As far as I can work out the ONLY sensible approach is to only buy from companies that discount their fuel (or provide some oter incentive). If, for example, nobody buys from BP because they're 1p per litre more expensive, then they'll have to drop their price to get some customers. Where this falls down is when they al sell at the same price - which seems to be quite common these days.

Mr & Mrs Smith actually get off there arse and do something then they are bang in trouble.

Well this Mr Smith's well pissed off. You know they bribed the lorry drivers with a road tax price cut.

P.s got the ignition fitted had to air chissel the old one off :) but working now thanks

Setup a database like the road angel has telling you the cheapest prices per station. Advising car owners which stations are cheapest could drive the prices down realtime.

There used to be a web site doing this (was the AA I think), but collecting the information which changes all the time and doing all the work for free was obvioulsy too much for them and it was stopped about 6 months ago.

Now if people were prepared to PAY for this information and there was a simple way of collecting it automatically, you may have the beginnings of a business opportunity ...
