they way i see it is if you really like a car than go for it dont winge when it brakes down just except it... money isnt a big worry, sourcing parts is... i dont earn that much but im very hands on and maintain my cars...people jump to conclusions when younger less well paid people buy these sort of cars get labled wrongly...ive worked my bo{{ocks off to get this car and im gonna enjoy it..but at the end of the day if i need the money i will sell her..but in the mean time shes my beasty and i will do my upmost to maintain her.

And its good to hear it, much better than paing ridiculous prices that garages charge, at the end of the day it is just a car.

My point was directly aimed at young chav's, wanting a fast car, perhaps making the first few payments on the insurance and then not beng able to fix/maintain the car because they aint got no money. it leaves no alternative but for them to break the car up.

Its a sad time everytime I see another one of the best looking cars (IMO) in the world being broken into pieces.....very sad......not saying that all broken cars are controlled y Chavs, but I've seen cases....a little bit of first thought about costs goes a long way....

Apart from the actual purchase of the car, the running costs must be in line with something like a Jag XK8.

But salary isn't so important, so long as you have a good ZX and ensure it is looked after. You must have a slush fund of £3000 just in case something breaks, although the ZX is essentially a reliable car even the best ones are getting old now.

If you earn less than £25k (or £30k in the home counties) and have a mortgage then don't buy one IMHO

Richard :)

Definately, unless of course your stil at home with the parents, a much more coommon sight with the current house prices, but dont get me started there... :nono:

Dragging up a dead dog, but 94.9p!. I have been used to paying between 99c - $1.20 ($2.3 = 1GBP) a litre over here.

Also Shell have just released a 100ron over here.

Depends on whether you use the zed as an every day car or not. I don't, I shan't be, thus, less use, gets garage stored, so out of the elements. I bought a fairly decent zed too in the first place and it doesn't get abused.

It'll get used more in the summer, but just resides in a garage at the moment with a dust sheet on it. Will take it out if the roads are dry AND/OR free from salt.

Insurance on the zed is about £200 cheaper than my last car (a ruddy Pauxhall!!!), sure, I'm getting some maintenance work done this weekend including all fluid changes etc at SouthWestZed. I shan't be modding it to a great degree. If you buy a decent one and look after the car, then I personally don't think it's going to break the bank too much. I do have a fair bit of cash in the unlikely event that it does go pop. But that'll be lessened still further when I get John Dixon to fit me a new chip this weekend.

I think 25-30k is realistic if you want to live and keep your zed in good condition with mods every now and then (ive spent 2k in the last two months) :smash:

My ZX is a mortgage on wheels lol. I still live with pop. I could get my own place but i would be on the breadline. Maybe someday i will grow up, but not soon

You can do it in a lot less than that. Depends what car you buy. I've only spend about £400 on mine in the 6 months I've owned it. £300 of that was for 99spec rear lights and panel.

I have purchashed a Conzult system from Dta-motorsport.co.uk for £280. I think it will save me money in the long run in being able to deal with little engine problems before they turn into big expensive ones.

"How much do you need to earn to run a zed"

This is exactly the type of question someone would ask who also would ask what mpg do you get? as the saying goes ...........if you need to ask you can`t afford it!

Jeff TT

I have to say that it doesnt cost you a arm or a leg.. if you abuse it or any car it will cost you a bit.. Yes mods are expensive compared to a fiesta... hence not alot of boy racers drive these. they just dream of driving them.

My car I have spent about 900£ + within the last 6 months... but it was gen maintance.. ie cam belt ... etc.. and mot.. which is now freeken 40£ WTF.

anyway .... its not alot.. I have paid more for less of a car...

I only earn approx 14k but by prioritising (and still living with parents) I can afford to do 10 mile there are and back drive to work each AND go for a good drive both days at the weekend AND, by planning ahead, service the car. People look at in me in disbeleif when I get out the car in my Halfords uniform (yes I know Halfords sells a load of chaved up tacky shit you dont have to tell me that I have to try and sell the shit whilst im there!) people my age dont seem to realise that for the price of a 2 year old Fiesta you can get a good Zed and if you dont get pissed EVERY night then you can run it and insure it too. Similarly I have other people who persist with telling me that "I spend too much money on that car and you can get a nearly new car for the price of that". Stupid stupid people! The average price for a good Zed I beleive is not much different to what it was two years ago. You buy a two year old fiesta for say £6000 in two yeas itl be worth £2000-£2500 and you will get bored out of your mind driving it!

In the first year of ownership i got my fingers burnt cost me about 3K in repairs but that was because i bought a bad 1 however in the past 2 yrs all it has cost me is routine maintenence and has never let me down :x:  ok it now needs a 60k service but hey so do all cars now just need to win the Lotto to afford some mods Macca look out

I earn less than £15k have an half of an heftyish mortgage 2 small kids and run a daily car, ive had the car about three years spent about £6k modding (mostly cosmetic) im managing to keep up maintenance i do a bit of stuff like oil changes yearly myself and so far so good :x:(touch wood)

i must point out i only drive it march till october and thats only weekends and on nice days in the week,

but its a small price to pay to own a zed

I dont know but when second hand 17" alloys for these Zs end up costing £950 plus than I think you have to be a millionare.

Ok its not so much as .. how much you earn......

its how you manage your money... someone on a 10k budget can afford a 300... and maintain it if carefull and doesnt have huge credit card bills etc...

the same goes for a careless person with lots of bills debts etc and on a huge salary of 70+ k. per year.

so the answer is not simple... its more how you manage your funds... and your expectations.... sorry but thats the truth.

My 300ZX TT......

It costs me less than my 19 year old son but more than my wife. I run two/too expensive cars but thats so i can keep the 300 for special purposes and fair weather and I have always liked and owned big expensive cars.

Cars are a deffinate status symbol and to have people admire your car is worth every penny.

I enjoy my life more now than I ever have. Therefore I will spend what I can and have what I want. Just to satisfy my needs, wants and desires. All 3 catagories cover my feelings for my sports car.

As much as it sounds materialistic and a little anal, it's so darn right!

chav type owner who doesnt want to do any servicing/maintenance but expects it to go on regardless, £5-7k pa (until it dies)

Macca type owner who wants to race the space shuttle & cant go more than 24hrs without buying some new mod, £100-250k pa ;)

When I dont even post on a thread I some how get dragged into it LOL

True you could do it on less if i had kept the car standard then i would have spent £0 in the last 2 months and i have spent alot on bodykit parts i find you buy one thing then you see something else and you think hmmm that would go well with what you just bought and then so on and so on
