How can I check what my car's boosting at. It only has it's standard gauge.

It's got an IMPUL ECU, so the mapping's been fettled with I guess. Not sure how good these are. Engine is super smooth though, no smoke rattles or anything, so engine appears to be healthy.

Just want to keep it that way.

Also, does anyone know anything about or run IMPUL ECUs themselves?

heard an IMPUL is a racing ecu from Japan. To be honest mate , Your better off getting a john dixon remap or jwt toget the car setup to UK fuelling as the current ecu will be setup for 100RON petrol. and the best we can get over here is 98. So get a remap done.

If u wanna know what boost ur running id advise getting an aftermarket boost guage along with a water temp guage as the stock one is crap and you do not want ur zed overheating and u not noticing !!! Also get a 60k service done if it hasnt had it done already by a reputable garage ( zen - ztech) . This should stand u in good stead for a good while driving bud.

Cheers pal.

For the time being I'll try and use high octane fuel with octane boosters and take it steady. I'll not be 'using' the power all that much.

It's had a good service on it, cam belt, oil, new plugs coolant and some other odds and sods.

Like the idea of getting it remapped too. Good plan. Prolly cost a small fortune though. :(

As Karlos says, even if you dont "intend" ;) to use the power much, its still worth going for a chip that you know is mapped for Uk fuel and safety.

Its not just just the Fuelling maps that can be the problem, its the Timing settings. Often the Jap spec aftermarket chips setup for higher octane fuel will also have the timing increased too much across the range, and you risk detonation even when your not being heavy handed with it.

...and for less than £100 for something like a JWT chip its a worthwhile swap.

oh..and buy a Aftermarket Boost gauge asap if its had a boost increase.

When you say 'chip' do you mean ECU? Because I guess the IMPUL one is mappable, so would I need a chip?

I dont know about the Impul in particular, but usually the ECU has been socketed(old chip removed, socket fitted so chip can be removed and replaced as needed) and the Impul chip has replaced the stock chip on the ECU. It should just be a case of swapping the Impul chip with new chip.

Send John Dixon a PM, he should be able to advise.

It's a complete ECU though Dave not a piggyback chip/chip carrier.

I'll get in contact with John Dixon then.

In the mean time, what's the best way to boost the octane level in order to achieve 100RON? Off the shelf octane boosters? Or is there anything else I can use....and in what quantities?

Cheers pal.

Not bad at all.. :)

Thanks guys. Have got in contact with John, will see what the outcome is. Want to take as best care as possible with this....where financially feasable.

Yep, as are the JWT's, Mines..etc, but in reality they are stock ecu with the fuel/timing/safety maps chip replaced, as the rest of the ECU deals with whole loads of other stuff on the car as well that the Impul chip wont deal with.

So litterally is just plug and play with a replacement chip then? That will solve fueling and thus timing discrepencies?
