Hi,

On the Boost guage on the dash, I only seem to get 3/4 of the boost when I boot it. Should this go all the way to the end (+14). If so, is there any way I can improve it, or check to get it up to par. Jeff tested the pressure in the system a while back and it's ok. No noise from the tubs either?!?

standard boost should be at about 9psi so if you want to increase it then a boost controller and a chip to control the fueling etc will be needed then hello 1 bar :)

same as what kirbz has said really mate , stock boost is around 9psi but u can get boost jets and chip fitted as the cheaper option to raise the boost to 13.5 or 14 safely OR get a boost controller and chip but will cost a fair bit more but at least its adjustable. Only down side with boost jets is spiking.

what kind of price are you looking at for a boost controller and chip?

Which boost controller/ chip is reccomended?

Can these be fitted DIY??

whats the meaning of life?....

Sorry got carried away :slap:

Sh1t, you boys don't hang about do you...

So what your saying is my boost looks normal for a standard Z.

I think a boost upgrade with chip and jets is arround £200'ish which is cool. But as m1ke c said, how much is a decent controller and chip setup? and do you need boost jets with that?

And another question, how good are those HKS inline Autobox changer thingys?? Do they really make a difference?

If boosts goes past the 1st positive line (the thicker line halfway into positive boost)

then thats correct. Its around £100 for chip, and a few quid for jets, or a further £200-£300 for boost controller.

nice one mate. Thats exactly what mine reads. Thats good news. I thought I had a problem for a minute.

What about the HKS ALC (I think its called)?? Anyone know what they are like?

they are superb, but theyre not a boost controller - they tweak the oil line pressure in AUTOboxes at shift-up, making them quicker. deffo recommended if you have an auto.

if youre looking at upping boost, start with a JWT chip and 1mm or 1.2mm jets [safe option] - should be less than £100 easily if you shop around. this will give you a much-noticeable increase in performance.

then when youre getting bored with it - another chip (speak to John Dixon on this forum) and boost controller

Cheers mate. Had an auto box re-build a while back and feels a bit sluggish on geer changes. The geerbox is fine though. Herd about the ALC and wondered if it would help.

Can you recomend anywhere for the chip and jets?

jets are basically mig welding tips which you can pick up from any hardware store for pennies. the smaller the hole, the higher the boost. 1.2mm is a good place to start (will get you 11-ish psi), 1mm is good fun (13/14ish) but can spike to dodgy levels (15/16). some risk-takers like to put in 0.8mm and run high levels of boost (goodbye tubbies unless theyre uprated). TBH i got my JWT and jets from ebay for about £80 and am well happy with them - although im upgrading both ecu and controller soon. try ebay or the traders on here.
