Castle Combe trackday - awesome highlight of my year!!

Did the Castle Combe trackday yesterday. Bloody brilliant!. It was my first time on track so a real eye opener. The car went great, the engine didn't even seem that hot and I was ragging the hell out of it. The stock breaks on the other hand were a pile of sh*t!! I've got my new brembos but didn't have time to fit them. I didnt want to encounter problems and not have the car ready for the trackday (one way op as I've got to drill the mounting holes out). They were fine for the first round of laps (10-15 mins). I had a good spin out coming out of quarry corner (very tricky corner, saw a picture of a porshe from last month literally 10ft in the air and spinning!! driver walked away with a black eye and no car!!). I browned my missus's g-string as I went whizzing backwards towards the barrier with no insurance and finally stopped literally 1/2 a meter from it. I think the combination of this and the hard driving/breaking boiled the fluid as after that I could only do 10mins before my breaks would fade to nothing. A new experience for me, foot right to the floor and no brakes! had to pump it a bit to make them work and use the handbrake as I was returning to the pit. Definately recommend good new brakes for anyone going on a trackday, I'm sure its old news to all you old sweat track vets out there.

I put my stock wheels on the back which had new bridgestones. I never had the fronts up with me so had to keep my antera's on. This worked fine. I was worried about the size difference but it's not that bad as the profile of the stocks is a lot bigger so the actual difference is not that noticable. The tyres would feel like sponges after 5 laps, the backs were up at 39psi as well, could have done with making the fronts harder but didn't get a chance.

There was a photographer there and I've bought a great A3 print, he forgot to give me the digital version though. These are also taken by him. Check out my yellow g-force indicator. It's the pre-curser of the r34 ones!

All in all the best day of my year.

Dave

Yer...brakes...lol

As for the tyres...Demon Tweeks is where i used to get my racing tyres from...Damn good prices too...

The soft compound they do is unfookinbeleivable....

Bet you had some nice beads on your rubbers after youd finished..lol...did it rumble for a bit coming home again till they wore off?

Cool!! Ace photos there Dave, love that side on shot especially.

Any photos of your Missus' G-string?

BTW, as discussed, you can get Track Insurance as part of the package with Heritage.

Thanks guys it was great. Gonna check that heritage cover. Yep the tyres were covered in beads, front but especially the rear. They were a new set of bridgestones as I said from my old stocks I got just before buying better alloys. Probably a months worth of wear in one day! might check in a bit to see. Gonna try demon tweaks next time I need some. How much did they charge for ones to go on stock wheels?

I had the semi slicks (road legal so you could get to the event on em) on the Red compound that were 225/45/15 on my beemer and they worked out about £60 a piece delivered if you got a set but obviously being you need a bigger tyre it'll be more :(

The photographer should have had a longer exposure to make the wheels and back ground a blurred look.

Nice to see some one taking their car on a track. I can only think of 1 or 2 people who have done that on here.

We had about Half a dozen Z32's on the track at Castle combe. Japfest 05.

I thought Japfest was a Japanese meeting with the option of going on the track, and not an all out track day?

Sorry to keep bumping this up but I'm getting more phots from peeps on UJCC. Here's one showing how close I was after spinning while coming out of Quarry corner. I really thought I was going to total the car, my heart was beating double! Dave

mate that is kool....

You gotta find the limit sometime and it looks like you did.

Now you can take it to the limit every time...

You'll find that all the greatest drivers/motorcyclist were reknowned for crashing soooooooooooooo many times whilst learning but then you find the limits and their the quickest....

ie...Rossi and so on

Nice one Dave looks like you had an awesome day up there!! Gonna get up there myself soon as my bro only lives 8miles away from the track! By the way like the pine tree airfreshner in pic 2, by the looks of it you we're pulling some serious G's!!!!

Yep the pine tree is my g-force indicator. It has different modes for forward and side ways g-force! If you are ever up near the track let me know as I live in Badminton about 8miles away also. Not sure when I'm down in Cornwall next probably after my summer leave. I'd highly recomend it, a real worthwhile experience even if you only went once. I want to do the nurburgring now! Dave

Wow looks like you had a great time! Good pics aswell.

I'm with Heritage and they told me track cover is included in my policy but only if the event is organized by the club.

Nice one Dave!!

I'm addicted now bud! Can't wait to do the next one, once the brembos are on there. Stresses the car hard though. Need to give it some loving for a few weeks! took an hour of fast road driving before the stock breaks cooled back to normal, and my discs are a bit glazed now. Dave
