came home today to find a load of crap on my computer (usually because my click happy brother dsnt read pop ups before he chooses a button)

theres a new toolbar on my internet explorer which i cant get rid of and also that other thing (in pic) that opens at the bottom. theres also a load of links that have added themselves to my favourites which i cant delete! there were some new icons on my desktop too which i managed to delete but for some reason they dint go in the recycle bin

Can someone tell me how to get rid of these?

Quick and easy thing is to do a system restore to before he messed about with it.

Can you tell my I.T. skills are very limited. :p

Call him a dirty little git from me!!

You may want to clean the keyboard aswell :hurl: :xxx:

Download some software called ad-aware mate. google it, actually do a search on http://www.download.com run it on your computer. Will kill any annoying toolbars, most popups, and most spyware on your computer. end result is computer and internet run faster, meaning ur presence on here will be much more efficient  oh yeah run it and then reboot your computer and then run it again, dont ask why, just trust me on this. right time for a joint then off to bed methinks!

adaware is no longer the best in my personal opinion. Get spysweeper from http://www.webroot.com

However its started to get a little annoying, but you can turn it off when you want.

You have installed some software which has this on. Most, what you think is free software, have things like this tagged on to it. For example, when you download Adobe reader it asks to install Yahoo search bar. You cant install Quick time without installing iTunes. Even Winamp now installs some AOL crap.

Have you tried to look in the add remove programs part of control panel. It may be located in there and you should be able to remove it.

also right click on in the toolbar area but not on an icon and it should be there in the sub menu that pops up. click it and it will disappear. to make sure right click again and make sure there isnt a tick next to it.

USE THEM ALL and be safe out there!!

I run Adaware, Spysweeper, Spybot, Zonealarm Suite, MS Antispy and even AOL has it's own spysweeper.

They all seem to find different things so I keep 'em all.

The little fookers 'aint gonna get me, no sir.

Yeah becuase they put them in there to take them out making you think that the program is doing something.

Plus the line between spyware and none spyware is very fuzzy. Some programs class some things as spyware while others dont. I have had spy searching stuff which has reported the login cookie of this site as spyware.

ok to sort this out there are several options.

basic way: download a program called hijackthis. as what you have there is a browser toolbar hijack, pain in the arse but easy to remove. you can get it free from here :http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ as posted above.

other method: only two programs worth using to sort it out first time. ad-aware and xoftspy, the reason is that they work hand in hand with each other, the software developers work on making them do things the other doesnt.

macafee, norton and avg suck. if you want an antivirus that finds everything in one hit and also gets updated every hour on the hour with new virus defs including trojans, worm, browser hijacks, dialers etc then kaspersky antivirus is the one for you. http://www.kaspersky.com/

i have those plus zonealarm on my computers and i never have any problems, i also use window washer and i also use a program calle system mechanic pro by iolo to remove the defunct registry crap and other erranious files on pcs.
