Flush or not to flush.....that is the question !

Hi

Wanna treat my Z to an oil & filter change over xmas......do you guys recommend those engine flush liquids in the shops ? Or should I just put the new oil straight in ?

Cheers

what sort of miles has your car done, how often have the oil changes been, etc, etc..

all these are things to bear in mind before you do a flush.

i know, because i am always tempted and always chicken out...

the phrase "can of worms" comes to mind...

If it's had quality (read synthetic) oil, changed regularly (3k miles) flush is probably not necessary. But probably no harm either.

Mine has had flushing oil thru it in an effort to clear varnishes thought to be causing hydraulic tappet tapping on start-up. Basically when used every day you don't hear it but if I leave it for a week unused you still hear the tappets on start up. I think it is simply slight draining off of the oil. The wife's golf does it too. Good oils and regular changes are supposed to stop any varnish build up.
