With tyres being a significant running cost, it would be handy to know which tyres last the longest. So if you have experience of running different makes of tyre on your Zed, which ones lasted longest for you?

This isn't for grippiest or best looking or cheapest, just longevity - how many miles. Let me know if you want other makes added.

This is prompted by going through my second set of Bridgestone S-03s in less than 9,000m when all my previous Brigestones (S-02, Potenza et al) lasted over 15,000m. So what do I replace them with?

Cheers - Gio

All tyres have a tyre wear rating, bigger number, harder tyre, so there is a scientific answer to this.

Might be good to list Nankang. I know they are cheap, £62.00 for 255/40/17, and so some will slag them off, rightly perhaps, but tyre technology gets better all the time so who knows until you try them.

Gio I run Nexens on mine and have found them to be the best all round for value and in my opinion are a great mid range tyre...With the Rears your always going chew them up a bit faster as its real wheel and alot of torque is laid down through them but my fronts (as per spec) have lasted me at least 17,000 miles ...(ran her daily for the last 2 yrs up until May this year). Have a look on http://www.Blackcircles.com for prices as they sometimes have offers...I then call my local dealer and ask him to compete...Twice he's matched them near as damn it without having to wait for delivery in order to fit so i've paid an extra £2/£3 a wheel....Paid £85 fitted and balanced for each of my last set of rears...

Well don't keep us in suspense, Andy, what is the scientific answer :D . And how come S-03's last half as long as S-02s? Anyone else notice this? Have they changed compound or what?

Ive only ever had Goodyear F1's on my Z's which ive been really happy with the mileage.

On average is say about 8000 miles for a set of rears and 14000 for fronts!

Which i think is great, considering ive used them at the pod, on track etc etc

But i do get my sterring/tracking checked every couple of months!

There is this thread as well for tyre choices by members:-

I use NEXONS for the rear......

Very grippy...even in the wet,

BUT

Wear out really quick...not exactly that much tread on them to begin with either

Lasted about 5,000 miles so far...nearly dead already(#EDIT# are dead already)

Prehaps its just me

Marshall on the front and are the copies of the F1 tread pattern.

Good in wet and dry...decent tread depth...lasting very well

Marshalls are dreadful - try something like Proxes (which aren't perfect either) for a dramatic improvement.

Are they cheapo's as well andy?

Have you tried them both then?

interesting link there

Yep, the importer had put the nastiest, cheapest things he could find on mine when I got it - Marshalls !

IMHO Bridgestones are best, Toyo's are OK but cheaper.

Goodyear Eagle F1's lasted 12k Miles, on the rear of my Bmw 535i, and about 15k miles on the front.

I've got Nankangs on the front of the zed, and Goodyear Eagle F1's on the back now, but not done enough miles to tell longelivity yet.

Well Im the oposite.

I had S02 and they lasted 8000miles, the S03 I have now have done 7000 miles and still have more than half on them. But they do get softer as they go down.

You can still get S02's, but they are specified as Porsche only fitment and as a result some of the original sizes are no longer available. I got to a place in Warrington and he has them on the Shelf all the time.

I've got front BF Goodrich tyres that have nearly 11k on them and they still have a lot left. Got Eagle F1s on the back tho' :)
