We all see the huge amount of posts in the help and advice section which I must say has been a huge help when needed but it does make it look like Z's go wrong way too often. So lets see how reliable your Z's are. I'm not talking about things like annoying little squeeks etc I mean things that affect the everyday driving of your car.

So, what you're saying is... I have the worst luck with Z's..

No, you just bought a shed. ;)

Two sheds!

If I had any sense I'd give up and break this one, and get something reliable instead..

It is all down to the way the car has been cared for. Regular oil changes and proper servicing and you can see 120,000 miles on original turbos though the average age for turbos to ware out is about 70 to 80,000 miles. Just a fact of life due to the nature of what they are. Then you have to replace 2 tubos which is going to cost anything from £1500 to £3000 depending on what you replace them with. Just something to bear in mind with any turbo car, but hey it's a fact of life that if something is really good fun it costs.

The other killer of these cars is poor tuning upgrades. ie poor mapping either too rich or too leen Causing bore wash or piston failure. Bleed valves to up the boost leading to DET or too lean etc. Again it's to do with the nature of high powered sports cars that people want to tune em and think they can do it on the cheep.

The Basic TT is a very reliable car and a properley tuned TT will still be very reliable.

Mine (well, the engine, at least) falls under the category: You can't polish a turd..

It started out life with an oil leak from the cam area (ah, easy, you say - cam seals), that looks like it's actually the intake sprocket that's worn. Anyway, after four years I decide to buy the bits to fix it and.. my parts never turn up.

Next step might just be to chuck a new lump in there instead - but then the problem is that the shell is pretty tired (and rusting in places :( ) and chassis is tired.. so, if the shell falls under the same category..

(It's a long story - engine is from my first Z, which was a J-spec with a dead autobox, chassis had no engine but a good manual gearbox and UK spec car - I didn't realise it was rusty until after I'd done the deal.. D'oh.)
