We all see the huge amount of posts in the help and advice section which I must say has been a huge help when needed but it does make it look like Z's go wrong way too often. So lets see how reliable your Z's are. I'm not talking about things like annoying little squeeks etc I mean things that affect the everyday driving of your car.

And a fine and dandy job you did to :D

I agree totally he passed me and my dad in my dad's escort soft top by the flying horse yesterday. his makes a hell of a racket too :D

Lots of miles and only problem has been the Maf which was expected due to the HKS filter that used to be on it.

My old one though: whole engine rebuild, auto gearbox rebuild........

Dave

It's been a bit of a money pit this year & last. Hope it will be ok from now on.

ive had mine over 3years now and only thing thats fooked up is the MAF.

although now i could do with new shocks and O2 sensors but surely thats expected at some time on a 16 year old car.

all in all ive been more than happy with my zeds reliability, although with its age i cant help sh1ting myself at times when im driving it wondering if anything majors gonna go wrong, sometimes spoils the driving experience!!

well nothing until today however it was not the cars fault driving a long here load banging from engine stars to get worried and shout a z tell it how much shi/t it is try to find place to pull of as pulling up almighty crack and bang. in my head fooking engine has gone or my terbo is still at the last corner. lifts the bonnet to find the remains of a white plastic bag that had come under the car got stuck in the fan went round a bit lodged onto fan shroud and riped it off. sweating stoped i needed a new one anyway. today the gods where on my side . or and i said sorry to my car

Nothing of any note - a replacement radiator (£60 from a breaker), a replacement starter motor (£20 from a forum member) and that's about it. Not bad for a 15 year old car.

Of course, it being an NA helps :D :D

The rest of my expenditure on the Zed has been of my choosing. :D :D

i wouldnt ask me,, , ,but i love the zed ,when its working we all have ups and downs with them some of us have no major probs at all for years ,but ive had a rough time with my zed

mainly due to bad workmanship needless to say i wont be going there a agian , i have a cuurent mechanic im very happy with "" and when you get a good one stick with them , there goldust !!

Mine was totally reliable for the first 130k miles. At which point If I'd have known what I know now I should have sent it the C & S Woods to sort and it would have cost me about a tenth of what it has thus far cost.

Or treated it to several gallons of optimax and a box of matches

I was surprised to this thread again 9 months after I started it :) :) :)

Bit of a tough question this one as you cannot expect much from a car where all the components are approaching the end of their design life anyway. All cars of this age will require open wallet surgery at some time soon. This will determine whether our cars will become a classic or not. If enough of us can see the cars through their old age then we will have a bona fide classic on our hands...........BUT i do worry a lot about some people who think it is ferrari performance for mondeo money. That is simply not true and probably the cause of many cars missing services, oil changes and replacing stuff when it should be. Bottom line is a Z is expensive to run if you run it and look after it properly. My advice is if you are looking for performance on the cheap forget it. If you can honestly afford to drive a real performance car adn drive it then do so. I think there are too many 2,000 mile a year cars which are just like preserved in aspic rather than been DRIVEN :slap:

Wheres the box for no faults in nearly 3 years?

Well, the exhaust is fooked now, but that doesnt count :D

just seem's to be lot's of visits averige payment is about £300. What can you do????

but must say a dream to drive

The only things I've had to fix are the silly faults which were on the car when I bought it such as MAF, Det sensor, fan shroud broken etc. I've just fitted a new timing belt, idlers, tensioners, water pump etc. This is the most I've spent on preventative maintenance but upgrades are a different kettle of fish.

Hmm.. owned Z's since 2001.. total time ON the road is probably less than a year..

Ive a years trouble free driving from mine, apart from the odd shake here and the occasional drip from a targa its all been good... Passed its MOT with just a couple of advisorys as well :D

Starter motor, temp sensor, wheels, new wing, indicator but gained ££££s in compo :)

Although I've had to have my engine rebuilt a few years ago, that was due to human intervention (someone previously removing a boost controller and not fitting things back correctly). My car's never actually let me down. Always starts first time, no smoke, rattles, miss-fires. Very happy with it to be honest. Had no problems passings its last MOT.

Sure there are things that need doing to it, but there will always be things needed doing to it. It's an old car.
