Hi all, I'm new to this group. I have always liked the look of these cars and its about time I bought one. I know a fair bit about cars and mechanics, whats the weak points of a 300 ZX, whats the best model? engine etc. Does the bodywork have any particular weaknesses or prone to rust etc. Ive got up to £6k cash to spend. I'm just want some details from you guys before i buy...any basic info would be great.

Glad your thinking about getting one of our cars you wont be dissapointed.

 

Mmmn 6K is not too much, might get a non-turbo jap import but as with all cars get the lowest mileage and newest model. Then ask lots of questions or better still get one of us lot to look at one for you first.

 

There are lots of threads on this so have a good look down the list first then start looking. I've only ever seen 1 rusty Zed!

 

The only weakness I know of are early Auto boxes, but I have one and it's still fine after 10 years of abuse!

 

The other potential weakness are the turbos if they have not been looked after. They need servicing every 3k (3k service is £50-60) and most sensible people fit turbo timers to avoid oil starvation.

 

Having said all that, it's basically as reliable as a Micra and seriously under tuned. Mines 10 years old, done 70K and still looks like new.

i should b cing a z tt in grey 1990 63k leather targa all the toys 4 6k this thursday. hopefully all fingers crossed i should b a extremely proud owner of a z. i was thinking of getting a AA check done £118 or £215 lot of doe but a peice of mind.

been looking privately only as i dont trust traders (i c some goodbutchery in this trade as im a sprayer) wat r your views on them,i personaly dont trust half the shite they cum out with??

i was told you were suposed to change oil every 4500miles buy nissan

 

Nissan said mine should be every 6k and more frequent for later modals, obviously they talk crap as they need the same care.

 

I did mine every 4000-4500, but now I'm aiming for 3k to 4k maximum as I'm mashing the oil a lot more these days and it's all Steve's fault!

 

have a look in this months fast car there's a raft of 300's for sale including a silver one for 11 grand that looks quite funky

 

I religiously service mine at 3k, 6k, 9k, and 12k.
