Left the ignition on for about 5 mins yesdy while the missus was sat in the car while i chatted to a m8, just to save the alarm auto-arming, no engine running tho!!, i know, i know, easy way to screw coil pack's i know, stupid of me, but the car started within half a turn as normal.

5 mins l8ter, pulled in for fuel, set alarm to valet mode, again while the missus sat there, came back to the car an the ignition lights came on really dim, then the alarm started going beswick like a voltage drop was trying to set it off an the car would'nt start without a jump from some leads, (auto see). But with the leads on it fired first time, an drove the 5 min journey home.

My question is, could leaving the ignition on have killed a perfectly good battery that quick?? I've put it on charge this morning, took the caps off an topped it up with some de-ironised water, doe's anyone think i can save the batt or is it fubar??? :(

How old is the battery?

Once they start to show signs of loss of power its probably best to buy another!

Topping up with the water wont make it recover, just prolongs its life by preventing the plates inside deteriorating further.

Give it a full charge and see if it does it again.

Coil packs shouldn't be primed though with just the ignition on. Doesn't the ECU trigger them by recieving a pulse from the knock sensor?

The coil packs are fine, i just thought with the ignition on i COULD of killed em. If they aint even primed thats good, gonna charge the battery slowly all day today slowly an see how it goe's.

How did you go with the ovlov Pat at hemish?? any good?

Stunning difference mate... over 300bhp equates to 245 at wheels 317f/lb torque..(rolling road run)..not bad from a 2.3 front wheel drive..hahaha
