there arnt many cars worth racing around here though dave (or places to do it 'safely'), the 'strongest' challenge i had was from a celica at the traffic lights on that massive junction of waterloo way and welford road on the way to the cinema. absolutely destroyed him.....and then he complemented my wheels lol :D

My mate was driving around in a Mk1 Golf that had been properly modded. It had a supercharged engine from a corrado in it, but it had been bored out to 2 litre.

The 106 GTI is actually a very good car. It may only have a 1.6 but it makes 120bhp and in a car that weights under a ton that aint bad. OK so it's never going to be as fast as a 300 in a straight line, but on a tight winding B road a well driven 106 will easilly keep up :D

It's all relative, after all given the choice of a Micra or a 106 I know which one i'd choose.

 

I do agree though, idiots in hot hatches are a real pain in the arse. Best not to get involved. If they want to kill themselves let them.

I did own the 1.9 GTI some years ago...Top car, handled like a go kart.

Cheap as anything now. I can almost spray, so buying a knackered looking one with decent mechanicals is what I'll do.

 

They are great fun for the track, especially devoid of that nasty interior. :)

My first fast car was a 106 GTi and it was extremely underestimated in terms of handling and poise.

 

My next car was another boyracer favourite, a Mk3 Golf VR6. But I slapped a Supercharger on the side of the block and it pretty much decimated all.

 

I used to race on an industrial estate called hams hall which was basically an oval based on a dual carraige way with an island each end with the straights around 500m each. I destroyed a couple of Zeds in my 106 in that environment (I don't know what they'd got under the bonnet) so I wouldn't be too harsh..

 

Now if it was a Nova.. (look out for my mate's 300bhp Turbo conversion around the Walsall area)
