I don't know much about it, but I'd guess there'll be a duty fee on top of the base price (about 10%?), plus you'll need to register it over here, for which it'll need an SVA test (and some modifications to get through this, like rear fog light). I was looking into importing a Sera a few years back, and buying a car from JP auctions for £1.5k was going to end up costing £3-3.5k by the time it was on the road over here.

FOB, apparently, means "free on board" - the seller is considered to have delivered when the car crosses the ship's rail at the port of shipment, and everything else is your responsibility *gulp*

Personally, I'd look into an importer who will take care of all the administrative stuff (sorting duty, registration, SVA, etc), as it's a lot less hassle and would only cost you a few hundred more. That's entirely personal, though - I'd rather spend a bit more than stress over the details.

Insurance should be provided with the shipping company (do check though)

SVA not required if car is over 10 year old, just registration and mot.

Check out Japcity in our Traders section. They are Importers.

I got mine through AutoAdvan, FOB is freight on board, on top of that and shipping you will have to pay to register it, tax it and MOT it.

Oh, and insurance whilst enroute should be covered by the shipping company but you better get it in writing or you will have no hope of a claim should anything happen. I didnt pay him till I had seen the car and was happy with it, this is something he was very reluctant to do but I twisted his arm.
